jamyskis: Actually, in Johnathanamz's case, he does. You see, he's infamous for having a rather bizarre, obsessively pro-Microsoft, anti-Linux bent to the point where he seems to be trying to give the impression of being paid by MS to post what he does, among them some rather wild claims about being a Microsoft shareholder.

So, in his case, he really is his rep. Not rep in the sense of that pointless little number next to your user name, but rep in that much more troublesome of senses - the knowledge that when you see a new thread posted by him, it's either going to be some pro-Microsoft, anti-Linux rant, some inane question, or some rambling, unsubstantiated claim.
How are my claims about owning shares in Microsoft wild?

A share of Microsoft costs $43.04 dollars (USD) right now, when I purchased them they were $29.71 dollars (USD).

You think it's impossible to purchase shares to publicly traded companies on the stock market?

hedwards: LOL

OTOH, at least these days he isn't just posting pro-MS propaganda. I remember for quite a while the only time I'd ever see him in here is if somebody would say "Windows sucks" three times.

Navagon: I thought that was Elenarie's job?

TBH, I'm not sure what's terribly wild about claiming to own 10 shares of stock in a company. Now, if you were claiming to own 10 shares of Berkshire Hathaway years ago before it split, I would have a hard time believing that, but even 10 shares of Apple isn't terribly unrealistic.

Johnathanamz: I'm truly upset at the gog.com community.

Every topic I make I get down voted.

I said like a week ago I will break the gog.com forums. I will now proceed to do it until the gog.com employees fix it.

I'm officially fed up with this.
SPAM
I gave you +1 on your Frandango topic on good faith to encourage you.

I do find that on points of customer service / gaming titles there tends to be bit of a knee-jerk reaction towards the OP whenever this might be perceived "gog.com" hostile.

I perso think that even if gog.com "does not moderate" - "that much" - you can surely afford it, and should do it to protect especially those whom might with to criticize gog.com.

How shall earnest points of improvements be brought to gog.com's attention if any attitudes deemed "critical" are slammed down?

tinyE: It has nothing to do with the subject. If you came in started a dozen different threads about cheese you'd still get downvoted, because it's fucking annoying and selfish to flood a public forum with this crap, regardless of what the crap is about.

I'm not even reading your posts because you don't need to read the post to figure out you seriously have your head up your ass and at some point became convinced in that little ball of monkey shit you call a brain, that this forum was your own personal soapbox and that people were hanging out in here just to fucking listen to you bitch and moan.
avatar
Johnathanamz: Oh yes I'm bitching and moaning? It is strange to get down voted just because I feel something is not right?

I decided to listen to a fellow gogger that the forums are being attacked by alt, scammer, and troll accounts.
But here's the thing: people have pointed out to you on several occaisions that the stuff you've posted here is either untrue, or misinterpreted/misunderstood on your part, from the notion that Microsoft somehow listens to you because you have 10 shares, your complaints about GameSpy logos, to your recent charge that GOG has lost one of its "principales" (sic) because it's started selling HD remasters of classic games like Metro: Last Light/2033 or Grim Fandango.

Now, all of those above topics (GOG selling HD remasters vs. original versions of games, Microsoft on GOG, or the consequences of old games using third-party online services that no longer exist) are all worthy of discussion on the forums, and it's great that you contributed to the forum by posting those topics. The problem is that you did so in a way that was disrespectful and totally ignorant of what others were saying when they disagreed or corrected you.

I don't agree with the downrepping, and I'll also say that you're likely not the victim of an alt/script attack, since that's lately been the work of nes400 and his alts/fellow trolls. (And he seems to target only people who get in the way of his continuing quest for hoarding and scamming people out of game codes.) But if you're genuinely upset about how others have been treating you on the forums, here's some honest advice for you:

a) Think about what others are saying. I think you've been here long enough to know that there are people who actually do post thoughtful and meaningful replies to your posts (snarkiness aside). Maybe their criticisms of what you say are actually valid. And if you don't agree with them, provide some evidence to show why.

b) Don't take it personally. Really. Sure, people are arseholes. Myself included. But as many have said on many other topics, rep really is just a number on some lesser internet forum. And to you, we're all just faceless avatars posting text at intermittent times. Honestly, how much weight do you really want to give to what we say about you, good or bad? Do you really want to give such power over your life to some faceless people over the internet?

c) Think before you post: I've started trying to post more meaningful stuff in my replies (and failing horribly of course), and I've tried to think about whether or not what I'm going to post has either (a) been said before (and said better) by others in the thread, or (b) actually adds any meaning to the discussion beyond a one-line "LOL".

Don't take what I'm saying as gospel, of course. But they're things I've learned in my time on internet fora. Feel free to make of that what you will.

PS: OH, and don't do this:

Seriously. Don't. If you're upset with a group of people, the best things to do are to figure out (a) how to change what you have the power to change, to fix what's wrong, or (b) leave, if the people in question aren't worth your time and effort.

Threatening them isn't going to make it any easier. Or better.

What s/he said. I didn't downvote you once but still thought you were acting like an immature jerk. I usually find your posts somewhat informative but this freakout was ridiculous.

Any way of dealing with anger and rage that takes it out on others is innapropriate. Go into a forest and scream or something, or run around the block as fast as you can... buy a punching bag... whatever...

I never said Microsoft listens to me, but they do take feedback from their investors. They listen to the people only who have 1% of Microsoft's shares only. I don't know if I can make it much clearer than that, but people seem to not understand anything I say. maybe it's the way I talk? I come from a place that people were raised and talk in this way where I grew up decades ago.

Nothing I said in those comments were disrespectful. I was talking politely and did not use any cuss words at all or anything like that.

Your habit of sticking your fingers in your ears and completely ignoring any sensible comment that doesn't fit your (usually weird, often outright nonsensical) agendas is a lot more impolite than an occasional four-letter word would be.
So... OP spammed threads? I didn't see it, but that hardly qualifies as "breaking the forum" if that's all it was. Not at all like that one time someone messed around with the subject line of a new thread and found a vulnerability that was soon after used to redirect this place to a my little pony site.

That was the forum being broken. A little spam doesn't accomplish much apart from possibly making you an honorary Korean.

For me you should just drop the "I own Microsoft shares" thing.
It's useless to know and it will just bring you more downvotes.
I own ten Microsoft games. :D
avatar
Johnathanamz: Yeah I have decided to just cope with it instead. The rage today was to just let it all out.
I upvoted this post because it speaks of a pragmatic approach and will likely be the way to go. In the end downvotes are nothing but a small reminder that there might be something to improve with the post. So one can think about it, maybe improve it or simply get on and cope with it.

hedwards: I dunno, at least I saw Elenarie posting about other things first.
I wasn't putting Elenarie in the same boat as the OP. Oh no. It's just that whenever Microsoft gets mentioned in any context you always know who's going to be the first to sing their praises.

I wonder if Elenarie has shares in Microsoft? :D

And following the first two rules ; yeah, these look like a joke, sound like a joke, come from a movie we all love (yesyoudo!!), but aren't a joke at all.

Ah yeah, I can't argue with that.

What I've found is that having a connection does introduce a bias. Somebody owning a single share can make a surprisingly large amount of difference in the way one views behavior. Sometimes even giving somebody else money for a service makes you think more favorably of it.

That's the main reason why when you get off the plane they are so quick to remind you that you chose to fly with them. The next time you're planning to fly you're more likely to remember them favorably.

Surely you're not joking. This is the internet we're all serious here all the time.
