Matewis: I really enjoyed Doom 3, so I'm cautiously optimistic for this. I enjoyed Quake IV a whole lot more though.
We must share a brain. I keep em both installed at all times.

Quake 4 is quite underrated. It's even more fun when you really crank down the brightness. Those monsters are scary in the dark!

Matewis: Looks really cool, especially the slowdown when you change weapons, but I hope you can disable that. Might get annoying after a while
Does Wolfenstein TNO and TOB have that weapon circle/wheel on the pc version? Because the problem for those two games, on consoles, was that the game was too frenetic and changing the weapons in real time could lead you to your death.

---

As for my opinion about the video, i don't know, something looks off, fake, i can't explain, it's the movement, the position of the enemies, how easy it was, and so on.
The whole map/gameplay modding looks interesting, i could see myself doing some horde mode (with the cash mod) to play with friends.

Too bad they didn't mentioned anything about the beta...

But positioning could just be the fellow memorizing the spawn points. God knows I use to be good at that when I was younger.

Lol, not that, like i said it's hard to explain, it's like the whole thing is scripted and yes, i'm well aware that those announcement videos usually are and those two levels probably were made just for demonstration but it's like i said, something's off...

Oh well, dunno, i don't get hyped with announcement videos so i won't join the angry mob when (if?) the game is "downgraded".

There is another game play video kicking about of an actual game level that might reassure you abit more. But it still looks fun either way!
flashy pickups, radial wheel for weapon selection, "cool" executions... not impressed.

We do? That would make sense though. Every morning I put out a bowel of cat food and a bowel of dog food for my cat and dachshund, before realizing that I own neither :D

Haven't gotten round to them, nor do I own a pc that can do them justice atm, so I don't know :P But it makes sense that you could have such a problem. It's convenient for a gamepad, but if you want a fast paced game then even the weapon wheel won't be quick enough, or at least, simple enough to use as quickly as you would need to.

Just had a chance to watch the gameplay footage. Graphically I've gotta say that it looks amazing. That level reminds me a bit of the Hell level in Doom 3 (which I was a big fan of), so that's nice. I'm not a fan of how the pickups look but that's a minor quibble. The one big negative for me is that soundtrack. Doom's music was always heavy metal with goth and industrial overtones, so what's up with the really generic dubstep-ish background noise there?
Meh. The gory bits are fun, though.

Mick Gordon is working on the soundtrack! ;)

I'm going to have to make a double check later, but I was under the clear impression that the background music was a reworking of a classic doom tune and not a generic dubstep thingy.
It looks fun to me.
I think it looks awesome.

As a huge fan of the originals, my perfect Doom 4 would basically be an HD reincarnation of Doom 1/2. Mazes, keycards, and all. Nothing more, nothing less. But in this day and age, that's never going to happen. At least, not from Id. I figure if Doom 4 manages to capture just a bit of the spirit of the originals, I'll be happy. And I'm really happy with the gameplay they showed. The pace and flow of combat looks a lot more like Id's pre-Doom 3 games. I was put more in mind of Quake II than Doom, but still...

I expect I'll enjoy it. I haven't hated a Doom game yet. Even Doom 3.

Falci: The 8 min video, in particular, gave me a strong feeling that I was looking at a "Brutal Doom 3" mod. Having seen more screens and the official trailer later, I did like the designs, much closer to the spirit of the original game than the ones in Doom 3, but I believe that repeating Mars is a missed opportunity. A little bit of murdering on Earth wouldn't do anyone harm. Anyway, it will be probably brutally fun. I just wish I had gotten more hyped about it, Doom is my favorite FPS ever.
Wasn't it planned to be set on earth originally, before they decided to re-work it?
