Sabin_Stargem: It isn' just a lack of risk-taking that GOG has issues with: They also create problems or fail to appreciate what they got in the hand.

EG:

1 - Refusing to accept Zachtronic's latest game. Aside from potentially creating bad blood with a developer that has historically released games on the platform, it also resulted in skipping the release window by about a month or two. That permitted other vendors to receive the bulk of sales.

2 - When the AVGN Movie was released, GOG didn't sell the AVGN game, let alone bundle it with the movie. GOG wasn't doing any favors for the video service, along with losing out on the sequel to the AVGN game. Further, GOG may have had a shot at hosting seasons of the AVGN series - but didn't. Myopia and lack of initiative is on demonstration here.

3 - Refusal to sell One Finger Death Punch. Again, the developer is now developing a sequel. Want to wager what platform ISN'T going to sell it, let alone on release day?

4 - Turned down a notable company, Degica. They were willing to sell through GOG, and are a Japanese publisher. GOG failed to nab an opportunity to network with Degica, losing on potential connections and experience - along with a host of properties like: Mushihimesama, Luv-Muv, A-Train, RPG Maker, and many others.

GOG isn't just failing at being assertive, it is also willfully ignoring opportunity.

kohlrak: Point 4 is a big deal... A DRM-Free market for Japanese games is a huge deal, and a hell of an opportunity gone. Their website seems to be falling apart, but that is still an interesting market to get your hands on. And the games aren't just the usual things that people would turn down, either: shmups and other things we don't have alot of here on GOG that people are into.

But to be fair, they're all still risks, but 4.... They had a game on here: what happened?
WAIT! WAIT WAIT WAIT.... they turned down Degica??????!?!?!?!?!???? WTF IS WRONG WITH GOG?!!! When was this???? I never knew about it.. jesus Christ I need to collect myself for a while... in my books GOG you done fucked up on that one big time... I have a feeling someone on the curation team needs to be let go and allow new blood in FAST....

EDIT- I think I wanna cry now knowing RPG maker could have been here DRM FREE!!.. @_@ Kill me now.

Swedrami: With the just recently released major update which pretty much overhauls the entire game for the better wouldn't it be time to take another look at this, @GoG curation?

Do you have something to contribute? This is a forum, not your local bar.

I hate how review sites never update their reviews... like they're paper magazines.

There's no benefit to a review site to pay someone to go back and review a months-old game.

"Hey, we made a (shitty) game"

**Journalist spends xx hours playing and writing a review for the game**

>> 6 months later

"Hey, we updated our (shitty) game, it's midly better now!"

**Nobody updates or changes their reviews**

"Fuck journalists, they are the worst!"

It's most definitely not enough to make the game good if all the reports are true.

They didn't release a buggy good game, they released a broken piece of trashware that didn't just have bugs, it had missing features.

How the fuck do you release a game in that state?

Watch this and tell me, do these people seem confident about the product they are selling? https://youtu.be/VSv9dP7JvJg

The devs themselves admit the overhaul is not enough.

Well, is that a reason for me to hate it any less?

They sound sincere and a bit humbled which is no wonder considering how the game has been received. I prefer that over some overenthusiastic marketing BS.

So what you are saying is that you prefer to be humbly served shit on a plate than to be enthusiastically served a cheeseburger?

'The Quest' and 'Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar' are two dungeon crawlers GOG refused. Neither is a utterly broken and unfinished mess.

Let's just think about that for a minute.

So, I guess, now that the dust has settled, it is safe to assume that Ascendant never got past the duration of GOG because of legitimate technical reasons.

Sorry to hijack your post.
I just want to inform everyone who could be interested that a DRM-free version of Grimoire is now being sold on itch.io

Didn't Cleve swear, that Steam would be the only place where Grimoire would ever be sold? Then again, he also promised that the game would never go into the sale after the initial launch deal and I think I've seen it around 50% off at some point.

You know good ol' Cleve and his "interesting" stories and rants (edit: and insults). But it was a nice move from him, for all those who won't touch Steam with a 10ft pole.

But he never said he wouldn't sell outside Steam. In fact, when the game was first lauched in 2017, he said that GOG would receive a version when he'd made a manual and patched the game to an acceptable level (he recognised the game was infested with bugs in its initial release).

Don't forget that they also refused Gates of Skeldal: 7 Mages.
It's not top notch game but, you know. Quality is equal as two games mentioned above. It seems that dungeon crawlers aren't in GoG's scope nowadays.
