seppelfred: A fantastic movie! I love it and can't decide if "The Never Ending Story" or "The Dark Crystal" is better. A lot of great fantasy movies were made in the 80ies, like Ridley Scott's "Legend" with the devilish Tim Curry, "Labyrinth" with David Bowie(RIP) and the wonderful Jennifer Connelly, "Willow", "Dragonslayer", "Excalibur", "Conan the Barbarian", "The Last Unicorn", "Krull", etc... What a wonderful decade!

drealmer7: To me the depths of meaning that The Dark Crystal has (good+evil, light+dark, all being part of the same whole), as well as a complete lack of any cheese make it far superior. I consider Willow and Legend better than it too. Krull and Dragonslayer are fun but not good movies I think. Excalibur and Conan the Barbarian are GREAT. Of course The Princess Bride is great too. Must mention The Adventures of Baron Munchausen too! There's lots more more obscure movies too, check out Dreamchild!!!!
Of all the fantasy films and movies I've seen The Princess Bride is the one that have the most of the kind of humor I like. Besides it's a classic fairy tale for kids and young adults with a language for adults and that's a hard combination to beat.
Not very profound but I'm not a very profound guy. :)

Edit: Yeah The Adventures of Baron Munchausen is great. I missed it when it was new and saw it decades later by chance. It was on TV and I was bored so I gave it a chance. Reminds me a bit of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. That's also a great film.

drealmer7: I'd just like to mention my favorite fantasy movie, not only as a kid, but even today.

The Dark Crystal
I always thought it was kind of gross when the bird guy disintegrated, haha.

fortune_p_dawg: movie is fucking magical. the falcor music made me feel like i was 5 again. yay.

WinterSnowfall: I remember being scared shitless when Atreyu had to walk through the Sphinxes. I probably had a couple of nightmares related to scary statues shooting rays out of their eyes.
I also had some strange dreams about the movie as a kid, and somehow the music made it's way into them.

Magnitus: Never heard of them before, so I guess it's still a possibility.

I'll label that one a 'maybe' :P. Will make note to check some of their stuff on Youtube.

Well, I was genuinely curious until he told me they were rancid.

Love discovering hidden treasures through Youtube I didn't know existed.

Got to keep an open mind.

PS: On a tangent topic, the music industry really shouldn't bash on Youtube. Seriously, I think I wouldn't have bought half the music I bought if I hadn't heard it on Youtube first. They should actively hunt down their music on Youtube, not to shut it down, but to force the poster to add "You can buy it here ->".

hedwards: LOL, anybody care to guess why that change was made? :-P
Yeah, unfortunate mispronunciations abound...

The Dark Crystal
That was a terrifying movie. The only thing that would have made it scarier is if they had used Sam the Eagle. That Muppet gave me nightmares.

Do they still bash Youtube? I see a lot of VEVO channels for the artists that I used to listen to and I think the labels get the ad revenue for those views.

I recall reading something about it a couple of years ago (ie, 2-3). Maybe they've turned around, at least for big names.

You're still unlikely to find videos for lesser known more local artists.
