GamezRanker: Important Thread Update

Due to the courtesy of fellow (very generous) forum personality Doc0075, two copies of the game Webbed will be added to the party favors.

All entrants currently not in (for any draws) who wish to change their mind may do so at any time. In the meantime, anyone who doesn't explicitly say they're not in (for any draws) will of course be entered for said party favors draw by default.

That said, now back to greeting more party guests(processing more entries). :)

Hmm, looks quaint....also lol at the text in the third pic. :D

zaMNal: The more the merrier, I would like to enter for all the prize draws available, with a "secret" to aim for RtCW, which never seems to get more than 70% discount in recent years. Thank you again!
(preface: make sure to check my other post to you in Post#54)

GR takes a small jack-in-the-box from a nearby bookshelf, and hands it to zaMNal, who hesitantly turns it's crank at their host's insistence. To their relief, all that pops out is a creepy/weird looking jack and a piece of paper with some text that says simply: "check your private messages"

Some of the other guests stop momentarily to look in the direction of the pair, a few of them somewhat puzzled at the actions taking place, at which point their host simply says with a smile:
"What....did ya think I wouldn't have any surprises in store? And that, folks, is just the BEGINNING.....do try to stay tuned!"

I'm in for both drawings.

I think Star Trek: The Motion Picture might be my favorite Star Trek film. I watch it every chance I get. There's so much to like about it, from the amazing musical score by Jerry Goldsmith (which would influence everything Trek-related that came after), to the gorgeous special effects, which are all the more impressive when you consider that they were made back in 1979.

The film was made about ten years after the original series ended, so all of the main cast look more or less the same as they did on TV. The story was adapted from a script for a proposed sequel series that was never produced, and it has the same familiar tone as a regular Star Trek episode, if a longer one: thoughtful, philosophical, asking questions about what it means to be human (or NOT human). As Spock says in the extended edition, "Each of us, at some time in our lives, turns to someone--a father, a brother, a god--and asks, 'Why am I here? What was I meant to be?' V'Ger hopes to touch its creator. To find its answers."

The movie is not without its flaws. The story has definite pacing problems and too much dialogue, the jumpsuit-style uniforms are goofy looking, and some of the FX sequences run a little long, but I still love it. When you consider all of the difficulties the film had during production--the editing was so last-minute that the film reels reportedly arrived at theaters still wet from being developed--I think it's amazing that it all came together as well as it did. And it still holds up great, even 40 years later.

Hello, everyone!

I'm a bit late for the party. But anyways. Happy birthday, GamezRanker!

My favorite Star Trek film is Star Trek: Generations. That's the movie that introduced me to the whole Star Trek universe. And, personally, I don't think it has as many plotholes as some people claim it has. I won't deny it having issues, but still, it did a decent job connecting TOS and TNG.

Also, here is a trailer for my favorite TAS episode: I'm in for Shadow Man.

Or Tomb Raider 1+2+3, from the additional list.

PaterAlf: I'm not in, because I'm not really a huge Star Trek fan.
Well, there's other prizes besides the Trek credit(like the party favors), and other ways for those not into or knowledgeable of Trek to enter. Just to make sure, you're not in for any of that as well?

avatar
PaterAlf: But if you want to watch something obscure, here's a link to a German Star Trek parody called Raumschiff Highlander:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7OCqf93c70
Nice......i've bookmarked it(and will maybe look for the others in the series as well, perhaps) for watching some day(need to clear some time, but I will eventually get to it). Thanks :)

BenKii: As much as I love all the different Star Trek movies and TV series, my favorite out of all of them is one of the games. And the game that best exemplifies Star Trek is "A Final Unity".
*Final Unity Brofist*

Small nitpick: they were Garidians, not Romulans, though iirc they did use Romulan ships. And yeah, lol at Worf's suggestions. :D
(btw, I actually have that game installed atm......I play it every now and then)

avatar
BenKii: The battle of Sector 001 at the beginning of Star Trek First Contact is still the coolest action scene in all of Star Trek. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7KCb-O20Fg
Watching now.....thanks for posting it.

avatar
BenKii: Thanks GamezRanker for this awesome Trek giveaway. I'd love to be in for the Star Trek credit. :)

Best of luck to everyone. Live long and prosper. -_-
I will go ahead and make it so. :)
*GR looks at his list and writes down BenKii's name in the right spots*

finkleroy: For my most recent birthday, my dad and I ate sandwiches at a restaurant that's known for its excellent salami. They were really good. Then we went to a MLB game. It wasn't a very good game, but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless.
That's so nice....spending time with family like that. And that reminds me once again: I used to love going to ball games every now and then with my one relative (sadly now passed) as well.....fun times.

avatar
finkleroy: I'm in for everything except the Star Trek games.
Your name has been noted, and may luck decide to smile upon you.
(I mean good luck, of course :D)

avatar
51nikopol: Not in just want to say Happy Birthday and thanks for the giveaway.
As Latka would say: "Thank you very much"

avatar
51nikopol: I grew up watching reruns of the original Star Trek and of course the best episode was Trouble with Tribbles...because tribbles of course.
Ah, a classic episode starring another of my favorite side characters, Cyrano Jones.

====

avatar
Jorev: My favorite Star Trek series was Enterprise.

It was the least political, socially aware, diverse, comical, and the most serious and therefore more realistic.
You forgot one thing: Scott Bakula ;)

By the by: are you entering for any of the draws, then?

====

avatar
tag+: Shadow Man & the daily please. Thanks for the inviting, this party rocks!!
Thanks...I do try to please. *GR bows*

And yer all set....you may now feel free to partake of the evening's amusements and refreshments, while you wait for the draws.

After I check on a few things here and there, I will return in awhile(several hours or so) to do some more guest meet and greets. :)

First of all, Happy birthday to you and thank you for being a great member on the forum.

I'm not a trekkie, as I never been really attracted by this universe (even the new films don't really catch my attention) but the Elite Force games seem to use the best of Quake 3 engine, so I'm in for the Trek Game credit if I may. I'm also in for the Special Prize Draws (just started Dark Forces and Dark Forces 2 is on my wishlist for a while).
Not in for Shadow Man, I already have it and it is excellent, even more if you play it without any map, just for the challenge of not being lost between the portals.

3. Tell us what you would like to do if you could go into space : It's stupid, but i would like to pee in weightlessness ! That's would be crazy to see (no idea if i can bring an umbrella in a spaceship ?), even if it's not a good idea in community !

Regarding Manson's cover of "Sweet Dreams", i think it's one of his best song and the less offensive for most people ( but don't ride a pig, please, it could be dangerous) !
Happy birthday "certain someone"! :P

1. I love Vulcan because Spock is my favourite character!
I remember watching the movie for the first time and still remember the scene.
Live long and prosper!

2. I laughed at this before it became a meme

3. It depends. Can we warp yet?
If we can warp travel, I would love to check out each planet.
And maybe we will find aliens, who knows!

4. I know someone hosting a house party giveaway with spooky theme :)

5. I like it! Nothing beats spooky and fun :)

Here's a present for our spooky host!

Happy upcoming BDay.

I'm not much of a trekkie, but as an FPS game enjoyer, I'll try my luck at the Trek game credit. Leave me out of the Shadow Man one, as I already have it.

3. Tell us what you would like to do if you could go into space
(like in Star Trek or similar shows/media)

- Jump around on a very low gravity planet and just float for several seconds before landing. Zero G is fun and all, but it would have to be in a controlled environment. Don't want to end up drifting through space endlessly :P

5. (optional, but appreciated) Watch the birthday music video link above near the top of this post, and let me know what ya think.

- Not bad, but still prefer the original. I'm not really into Manson, but one cover song I find pretty good from him is Halloween.

foxgog: Thank you and everyone involved for another generous giveaway of yours!
I like your approach, because it always spawns a lot of suggestions and inspirations for 'new' (so far unknown) stuff related to the chosen topic.
Yeah, I often try to make these contests(and a number of my other threads) in a way that encourages goggers to interact with and learn more about one another(to varying degrees of success) while having some fun for a bit.

avatar
foxgog: My favorite Star Trek film is a close call between "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" and "Galaxy Quest" (it is not an official movie, but for me captures Star Trek way better than any of the newer official movies after "Insurrection").

Yeah, Galaxy Quest is a very good film and one I like very much as well(as i've said several times before, here and elsewhere on the forums). This scene in particular, from near the end, is very good
avatar
foxgog: However, since TheDudeLebowski already mentioned those exact two movies, I go with my favorite episodes instead:

- My most favorite episode:
Star Trek Deep Space Nine - Season 3 Episode 22 "Explorers"

- My second favourite episode:
Star Trek The Next Generations - Season 5 Episode 25 The Inner Light
Those were some very nice clips...thanks for posting them. :)

avatar
foxgog: First, thank you for highlighting this movie, I did not know it before. And this is one of the reasons I like to participate or at least read through the entries of others in your giveaways!
There's also a sequel, which(on the disc version) had selectable alternate storyline paths. It isn't quite as good as the first film, imo, but I think it has some nice moments.

avatar
foxgog: In the past I would have said to enjoy the cover more mainly because of its use of an electric guitar. Nowadays, it seem difficult to point out a favorite... maybe depending on the momentarily mood.
I hear ya on that(picking a version of some songs depending on mood sometimes).

avatar
foxgog: I am only entering for the Trek Game Credit and the Door Prize (of course).
May someone else get Shadow Man and the other Party Favors who would enjoy those games more (or does not own a cop, yet)!
Sounds good :)

*GR checks his list thrice to make sure the names are where they belong, then continues to the next guest*

LynXsh: not in as I'm already too blessed with your generosity, so let's other have a bigger chance of winning.

so yeah. happy birthday and many luck!
Thanks for the birthday wishes and generosity(letting others have a better chance of winning and such).

avatar
LynXsh: heya, happy birthday!
have a nice special day, you hear me?
I will do my best, you have my word on that. :)

srhill: The story was adapted from a script for a proposed sequel series that was never produced,
I did not know this....thanks for the interesting bit of trivia.

avatar

That it does :)

avatar
srhill: I'm in for both drawings.
Sounds like a plan. Good luck, and hope ya enjoy the rest of the party.

Done until Post#65, and the remaining guests will be checked in in several hours or so.....all seems to be going according to plan. Heck, *GR eyes the telltale marks with a slight grin* even our special guests have arrived.
"So then, I think we should have some appropriate music to help shift this party into the next gear"
(content note: imagery is possibly slightly NSFW in spots, but the song is banging)

GamezRanker: 1. Name your favorite (official or fan made) Star Trek film or series/episodes , or favorite Star Trek game/game level/game map, or favorite race/character....and then tell us why its your favorite.

2. Post some star trek media(music/video clips/picture attachments or links/etc) you like.

3. Tell us what you would like to do if you could go into space
(like in Star Trek or similar shows/media)

4. Tell us how you/your locale like to celebrate birthdays, and/or any special/fun/interesting things you or someone you know did for a recent birthday.

5. (optional, but appreciated) Watch the birthday music video link above near the top of this post, and let me know
1. Star Trek wasn't showed on our local television until maybe late 90s - early 00s, only super rich people got access to US media and even they rarely watch it since the only storage for video at the time was VHS cassette (only a couple episodes just for one cassette is insane). We got Babylon V instead and it was a blast!
I personally watched some episodes from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager. I think my favorite episode would be TNO s03e19 - Captain's Holiday. This episode is light hearted and I laughed a bit when beautiful half naked woman with the ball approached poor Picard trying desperately to read his book. And Vash, she is a real beauty. TNO s06e21 - Frame of Mind is another episode I liked, contrary to the one mentioned previously this one is very dark, psychological thriller was a pleasant surprise, too bad the ending was too simple and happy, I would leave a place for a doubt if it's real or not to the very end.
2. Vash picture attached.
3. I would travel to Idryll and help them to *advance* their civilization, I think Humans and Idryll is a perfect mix.
4. We usually get drunked/stoned/whatever, eat a lot of meat with potato (bad for your sleep) and then even more sweets like icecream (I would rather eat Italian Gelato but it's almost impossible to get by here) and chocolate. Then after the required condition level is reached we get some fresh air before going to play each other or cooperatively in some video games, and it's a common courtesy to be funny and tell the jokes. Nothing special.
5. Checked the video from the link. Well, I watched the original video clip of Marilyn Manson and the movie long time ago. Well, some years ago the music was quite nice (but not anymore), the movie premise was great but in the end it left me somewhat disappointed. Nothing spectacular.

Star Trek: Elite Force I & II probably were the last true single player FPS games, major developers don't produce such games anymore, I would strongly advise anyone to get them and play, they could be a bit pricey but they worth every penny in my opinion.
NOT IN for personal reasons.

P.S. LOL, you were uprated in the beginning but only after a few hours *they* came for your reputation, the savages. What have you done to *them* I wonder, opened up and spoke your mind, huh? Bad GameRanger!

It was decent, though I did get news that day about a love interest saying she doesn't like me and stuff that day so I was trying my best to hide my deep sadness that day... was still a good day despite my emotional state
Thank you GamezRanker again and again for your generosity. And Happy Birthday! :)
