They're still here. It's up to you for how long.

Xenonauts 2, the sequel to one of the most celebrated alien-crashing strategy games, is coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
If you're eager to make new enemies, grab your squad and engage them now in the free Demo. Then go ahead and check out the game's Kickstarter campaign.

The aliens clearly cheated. They must have taken an extra turn while we weren't looking and pulled off a successful invasion during this alternate-timeline Cold War period. Now humanity must again start from scratch, establish a fully-equipped base of operations, and push back the unsportsmanlike invaders across the globe.
Don't expect this to be easy, though: the aliens will hunt you through fully destructible 3D battlefields, while you try to balance your funds, adapt to the emergent conditions of the campaign, and keep your soldiers alive so that they improve with each rank.
This seems almost like a reboot rather than a sequel. It looks cool, but I'm not seeing anything that promises to be significantly different than the first one. Am I missing something?

Vythonaut: Great news! If you want to read more information about X2, visit the following link: https://www.goldhawkinteractive.com/forums/index.php?/forum/31-xenonauts-2-features/

Enebias: I wonder if they will reset the story or continue it from the end of 1.

Vythonaut: Quoting the official website:

X enonauts-2 is not a chronological sequel to the first game, nor is it a direct spiritual successor to UFO: Enemy Unknown (1994) in the same way that Xenonauts was. We can be a bit more original and innovative in our designs this time around, as we are not constrained by the obligations of remaking the classic X-Com formula!

That's what I read months ago, but according to OP (and possibly from the geoscape screenshots), it seems like it's pretty much XCOM 2 story:

That's all fine and well, but I can't help but wonder - will my soldiers finally stop scoring point-blank misses?

With little patience we'll get to see how the story's shaped this time; November is close enough. ;)

Enebias: Thank you Vytho!
Cheers! ;)
It's cool to see GOG acknowledging a game is coming to this format while the Kickstarter is still active; so many times it's a gamble with Kickstarter or a developer says a game will come to GOG but I'm suspicious. Backing Xenonauts 2 is much easier knowing this.

For $46 backing you can even get a portrait submission into the game, not bad.

The first Xenonauts was abandoned with many flaws. I've played the several released demos of X2, and it looks more like X1.5. What do you know about this game, people, that make you think this gonna be better??? Do you have access to a secret beta release with the game almost finished that I know nothing of??? IMHO Fanboyism kills the industry.

Figured this would come to GOG. Actually, I thought they already had their KS. Whoopsie! Definitely looking forward to find out what's new. That base-building screen looks awfully familiar though. Hmmm. =P I hope they do manage to create a bit more of their own identity with the "sequel" this time around.

Fun fact: GOG has actually been semi-secretly hosting a combat test build for Xenonauts 2 for almost 2 years now.

Wow, if Phoenix Point hadn't been delayed to 2019, we'd be literally drowning in XCOM-like games this year.
Backed!

Omg... I was going to write up a joke summary of the second game to spoof XCOM 2 but they're actually doing it? xD

pkk234: Looks hella improved!
Why 30 GBs though? That seems like an awful lot, comparable to The Witcher 3
sorry but where did you see this 30 Gb size number please ?

I mean, i'm currently downloading the free demo and it's a 2.8 Gb only so far...

Also, i'm very eager to see this game released... Liked their previous Xenonauts game quite much already, so far the changes and improvements described regarding the project are really appealing to me, and i'm very hyped about murdering moar aliens !

Did you check out the links Vythonaut posted? Maybe people actually liked the first one though. Is that fanboyism if you actually liked the first game?
I love Xenonauts1... god, what a game!!! Im still losing troops against the alien menace and trying to keep up every time I start a new game... Now that Xenonauts2 its coming I cant wait... well, Ive played the demo via gog galaxy install but... knowing its coming, hellyeah!!!

And now XCOM enemy unknown its here DRM free, ill be training my strategies with those two games so when Xenonauts2 arrives i will not loose my troops... very often I hope XD

I see they've indexed it now, though.

If I recall correctly, it used to require Galaxy, too. There's no mention of it on the current demo page (though I'm not sure if there ever was), so I wonder if that requirement has been dropped. It would make sense that, as they get further into development, they stop updating the public test build as frequently (or at all), and it therefore wouldn't need Galaxy to keep the fans' demos up to date.
Awesome! Had no clue this was even an upcoming thing!

This looks like the sort of game where "MOTS" (more of the same) could be a good thing - add a few new interesting features, maybe a bit more storytelling and a new coat of paint and I'll be on board.

Was a bigtime fan of the first Xenonauts. Looking forward to this one.

jcoa: Demo card: "This demo will NOT grant a copy of the final game (it will be deleted once the game moves into the paid alpha stage."

So GOG gets another disappearing demo once the full game is out?
The demo has offline installers you can download as a back up. They don't require Galaxy or anything else in order to run ;)
