Welcome to the future of space warfare – STAR FLEET II - Krellan Commander Version 2.0 is available on GOG!

Originally released in 1989 (published by Interstel Corporation and distributed by Electronic Arts), this absolute classic is a complex and detailed space war simulation. Starting with just a single Krellan battlecruiser, as you rise in the game's seven ranks (each rank has five missions), you'll gain more complexity, such as escorts, planetary invasions, and eventually full sector command.

Now, the Version 2.0 is a severely updated and enhanced version of the original game. It allows you to enjoy all the gaming goodness of the 1989’s release but with a wide variety of improvements, quality of life enhancements, and additions!

Check it out and enjoy a true classic!

HunchBluntley: That's nice, though in the case of a manual, it really should be included with the game as a downloadable "extra", too. Not everyone buying it is going to check the forums.
avatar
Veloxi: I'm sorry, I've no idea how to add the docs as extras, but I'll find out. They're in the game folder under docs.
Good to know. And good luck with the (re-)launch!

pkv-marmoset: Amazing release, many thanks to the developer and GOG for continuing to preserve and support these gems!

Are there plans to re-release Star Fleet I as well???
avatar
Veloxi: Thank you! And yes, we want to bring SF1 as well, but we wanna get this one done and dusted and all stable and such first.
Wow thank you for the response! I don't often see developers being so engaged in a thread like this.

Great to hear Star Fleet I will come next. TBH I'm super intimidated by Star Fleet II and would welcome something (relatively) easier like Star Fleet I. Please let us know how to help make a Star Fleet I re-release (or remaster?!?!?!) a reality. Would be happy to pitch in for crowdfunding, too!

This is the old one, FYI, for 1.0.

I've just sent along the three new PDFs for 2.0 and they should be manually added to the download pages soon. Honestly not sure why I can't do it myself but whuddyagonnado?

Again, the three new PDFs for 2.0 are in the docs folder of your install folder, don't forget.

Hey the manuals have now been added to the download page as extras. Apologies, this is my first time at this so I'm not aware of procedures such as these. Thank you everyone for your patience.

No problem! Let's go shatter some worlds!

Thank you for releasing the game here and also, for taking the time to communicate with the GOG community. Not many developers do that. :)

My pleasure, I've been on GOG since it was in beta so I love this place. It's important to me.

Veloxi: This is a DOSBox game that's been confirmed to run on Windows and Linux.
I don't know if it's something you can prompt them to add or if it's entirely up to GOG, but DOSBox games usually have a "This game is powered by DOSBox" mention at the bottom of their system requirements, along with implied Linux or Mac compatibility.

Also, I assume the release only contains the v2.0?
It would be really nice if it also included at least the original v1.5B from back then as an extra. It doesn't have to be supported, but it'd provide a way to legally acquire and experience it.

Huh, I didn't know about the DOSBox thing. I'll email them about that.

Secondly, you can download 1.5b here if you'd like. https://starfleet2.com/download-1-5b-classic/

Good idea about putting it in as an extra. I'll talk to Trevor about it.

Alrighty, good news, we'll be adding 1.5b as an extra in the next patch. Thanks for the idea, desseim!

When that happens, you might want to send along the corresponding older manual for them to add as another "goodie" download, separate from the newer manual, as well (or just make sure it's bundled into the 1.5 game .zip).

(Sorry! :P )

It'll be all bundled in one zip in the extras folder.

I see it's been added, nice!
I think it's a valuable information for some prospective buyers, as it indicates it'll most likely run fine in a DOS environment (native, emulated or simulated) even if not listed in the supported environments or years down the line after release, even without updates or support.
You might want to get them to add Linux or Mac support if you've tested it too, people who search games filtered by supported OS wouldn't find it otherwise.

Wow great, thanks for that.
I must admit I assumed it wasn't officially distributed based on the "most common version found on websites that provide old games" mention in the description and didn't even search.

I searched for Star Fleet I and Empire though, as I usually like to play series in order, but couldn't find anything other than the old website, the downloads of which were not archived and which is anyway now down.
I assume the IP owner (Trevor I guess?) isn't distributing them anywhere, or is he?

Really nice, well done.

I must say, this is really the way to re-release a good old game IMO.
Although I know you eventually aim for the "remastered" Deluxe edition, and it will surely drive many more sales, I for one like this (updated original release, compatible with original HW/SW) much more.
