It’s this time of the year – Warhammer Skulls 2025 is here! For the Emperor!

This time around, we bring a variety of awesome news. So sit back, relax, and see what we prepared!

Apart from all the discounts you can expect on the Warhammer catalog, we decided to do something close to our hearts. The GOG Preservation Program expands once more!
Five Warhammer classics we’ve co-published, and that you won’t find anywhere else, are now preserved in their best form:
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate
Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000
Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War
Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat
Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior
These games defined an era – it was about time they received the full GOG Preservation Program treatment! But that’s not all.
With the Warhammer Skulls 2025 event live on GOG, Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War is now on a GIVEAWAY: fully updated, LAN-ready, complete with manuals, and yours to keep forever!
Warhammer is a universe so vast it spills across genres and generations – from grimdark sci-fi to high fantasy, from tabletop to tactics, from single-player campaigns to skirmish-scale gems.
It has shaped player identities, inspired modders, spawned books, art, animation, and unparalleled lore. It’s not just a franchise. It’s a world that gives meaning. And it deserves to be preserved.
Oh, and if you're still reading and haven’t rushed off to fight for the Emperor yet… Sanctus Reach and Armageddon also recently became GOG exclusives. We highly recommend adding them to your library and keeping them safe!

To top it off, we have some great gems soon to join the GOG catalog:
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Lex Imperialis
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Master Crafted Edition

Enjoy Warhammer Skulls 2025!

Now on a 64-bit platform to support the ongoing efforts of the modding community, the Definitive Edition also includes an integrated Mod Manager and is compatible with over 20 years of lovingly crafted Community Mods.

idbeholdME: Now this is how you do a remaster. Not like the Stalker re-release. If you are going to kill everything the community has done with your re-release, don't even bother.

I also really like what I'm seeing. No gameplay changes, just visual updates and QoL features.
100% compatibility with mods without hassles ? Widescreen fully included ? No bugs in the Dark Crusade campaign ? Too good to be true !
Obligatory reminder to drop a vote or two on the following, if you haven't already:

Warhammer: Dark Omen (Legacy community wishlist votes)
HeroQuest (Legacy community wishlist votes)
HeroQuest II (Legacy community wishlist votes)
Blood Bowl (1995) (Legacy community wishlist votes)

The Codex Astartes does support this action.
GOG, you have a mess with your promos. The Weekly Deals promo has about 20 mins left on the front page, but the promo page itself shows 1 day and 20 mins left. Man O' War: Corsair - Fell Cargo, which is part of this promo shows 20 mins left on the game card, but is also part of the Warhammer promo, which still runs for more than 6 days...
While I am not a warhammer guy I picked up Fire warrior abit ago and just got boltgun as they are the sort of games I like .. anyway I do wonder if we will get Boltgun 2 when it comes out

Syphon72: For the record, it's better than most games labeled as janky. It also features a good selection of 40k weapons to blast the Imperial and Chaos enemies.
Agreed. For the (imperial !) record, I found lots of testers a tad hard towards that game. One or two tests I red by then even tried to convince players that it was one of the worst FPS imagined... It is indeed quite crude in many ways, suffered from a couple of bugs - stutter issues when aiming on some rigs apparently, but nothing really game-breaking in my experience, at least with the last update - and, yes, "janky" is a soft word to qualify its external interface on PC - when you had to input your own configuration (out of the game !), you'd need a book to read meanwhile, since there was a horribly long delay between each key pressed -, but all in all, honestly, if you enjoy old school Quake-like FPS combined with fairly pleasant WH40K aesthetics, weapons - only two could be carried at any time, plus grenades, which angered some people even though I enjoyed that bit of realism - and lore - a decent story, with great cinematics and voice acting for the genre -, you'll probably still have a blast with it. It just came out, unfortunately, as a relic of an older way to conceive FPS games, with a simplier way to conceive physics - weapons aren't that different from one another, but I still enjoyed their simplicity -, combats and maps : loads of long empty corridors with not much interaction, not a lot of scripts or items either, and almost no music outside of audio cues (!), but still a surprisingly great atmosphere coupled with plenty of action... and a few neat surprises from time to time. Enough, as far I'm concerned, to try some levels again in order to obtain higher marks, unlocks special collectibles, etc.

You can feel that Kuju, its developer, strived to do a lot with a limited budget instead of just sticking to minimal (Space-Marines-are-cool) fan service... Alas, their work ended up being centered on Taus, quite unpopular among some older WH40K players by then, depicted by the game in a fairly simple, fragile an unheroistic way on top of being (at the plot's beginning) obvious victims of the Imperium, forced to fight against it. The novel which came out at the same time, depicting the same story with additional details, was reasonably on par with its peers and felt close to some movies about the Vietnam war : it unfolds across a few days only (two, if I remember well), having the reader (and player) witness the fast and forced evolution of a naive greenhorn plundged into a growing chaos of worsening events as he ends up turned into a killing machine (more than a hero) with no happy ending in sight. The book's ending is better than the game's in that regard, a bit too classic...

In short, many of its aspects are indeed quite basic, far from satisfying the standards of the next-gen action games by then, but they still feels completely natural, fun and justified if you're not dead set against older FPS games. In any case, I really don't understand why some testers felt the need to bash it that much. As Syphon72 said, it's not that bad at all... and much better than many other similar products, including some WH adaptations. I sincerely recommend players attracted both by WH40K and older FPS games to give it a try...

It brings me joy that Final Liberation was finally fixed as Rites of War, but i also hope that thePreservation team also updates SOTHR too, shader glass right now with their steam update is a at least, but i would love to see a proper wing32.dll wrapper on the likes of the one used for chaos gate or the patch given for Epic40k.

Also, since the game uses General Midi as base and it also uses SC-55 as its original soundfont, something akin to Nuked SC-55 would do great for this game.
Is Inferno - Beyond the 7th Circle Warhammer game at all?
Attachments:
So a lights and shadows update, and some sharpening filter on textures?
As a free update, sure, that would be nice. As a paid-for "new" game? You’re clearly not getting my money with that.

Apparently as part the preservation campaign Shadow of the Horned Rat has been updated with a new WinG dll, and the midi player or music or soundfont has been updated as well. I have not tested if the problem with the keyboard shortcuts is solved.

1.0 GOG v4 changelog:
Improved compatibility with Windows 10 and 11 so the game runs smoothly on modern setups.
Added a WING wrapper to boost graphics rendering and fix visual glitches.
Introduced a new MIDI music player for better audio quality and fewer hiccups.
Fixed those frustrating game freezes during the loading screen.
Shortened long loading times: less waiting, more playing.
Cloud Saves are now supported to keep your progress backed up and ready to go.
Stability validated.

Rites and Epic40K work with a version of the usual GOG ddraw wrapper, not WinG dll of any kind

Also proper widescreen support with adjusted UI, instead of disgustingly stretching the original 4:3 ratio. Which is by far the biggest thing in there.

But yeah, I fear it's going to be 30 bucks at least, maybe 40. And that means no chance in hell. 15 bucks, I could maybe see myself parting with. But with how remasters are priced these days.... yeah. Sadly, Oblivion showed the market, that re-releasing games at nearly the original full price easily flies now.

Looking forward to Dark Heresy and the second round of expansions for Rogue Trader, as well as Lex Imperialis the most.

Shame there, once again were no classic re-releases and Mechanicus II remains unconfirmed for release on GOG, hope this does get rectified next year resp. closer to the actual release.

MatroxMedik: Hmm im curious/ more interested in Battlesector Campaign DLC, is it coming here, pls? Also that Gladius DLC onslaught pack? Last few days im considering buying Gladius (I mean DLCs I have base game both here and Steam xD whether here or Steam- we dont have achievements here, but whatever, but missing DLC? I hope it gets added next day or so)
The Battlesector DLC was confirmed on Discord as having been sent to Gog already. They don't why it's not available here yet. The Gog store is out of their hands.
