"Betray our Admiral?" sneers Zephyr, "Never! We're Saviours of the World, and we will be to the end!"
[i]"Give yourself in!" Booms Koro-Koro Tank, "You will face trial with the Admiralty for your crimes against humanity."
Akalo rolls her eyes, replaces her mask and curls into a relaxed posture on the floor. InkBlot steps forward, pulling out a briefcase.
Inkblot's briefcase has various compartments, meticulously organised with neat labels. He pulls out a glass bottle and throws it at Safiros' feet, nodding his head in her direction. "Moths," he thinks aloud, and "balloons" as he throws a handful of bright-coloured rubber scraps at Captain Sapphire. The two leap back in horror as the balloons begin inflating themselves, and a cloud of grey insects rise, flapping freakily. "Electricity," InkBlot turns to Zephyr and tosses some batteries at him. "Hair," he says flinging a used hairbrush at Koro-Koro Tank who squeals and recoils.
"Robots don't have phobias!!" A squeaky voice buzzes as a little ramshackle droid rattles toward Inkblot, swinging various mechanisms.
"No Puzzlebot!" Yells Beatrice, "Get out of there! It's too dangerous!" An awkward robotic claw swings out from a wall and tries to poke InkBlot's eyes out, but he dodges easily and kicks Puzzlebot to bits.
"Do you know why people call us Heroes?" Saphiros states firmly, surrounded by moths. "Because we encounter what we're afraid of, but we keep fighting anyway!" She leaps through the cloud of moths and throws herself down onto InkBlot. He whips a dagger from his coat and slashes brutally at her throat, but she vanishes in a twinkle of blue dust. He twists around, looking back and forth sharply. Suddenly he waits, totally still and listens. After a moment he darts out his knife into the air - Safiros materialises, gasping, from the aether, a wicked cut running along her arm.
"Admiral!" Captain Sapphire cries. He takes a nervous look at the floating balloons, then scrunches up his eyes and flings himself through them in slow motion. He stops on the edge of the bridge and looks down. InkBlot is holding his own in close combat with Zephyr, Koro-Koro Tank and Safiros. Captain Sapphire prepares to leap down to his allies help. Suddenly The Hypersomniac leaps in Captain Sapphire's way, throwing lightning-fast punches. The Captain blocks and attempts to parry but The Hypersomniac is exceptionally fast. As he rattles beneath the hits, his eyes glow blue.
"Super Sapphire Bea-ow!" He's cut off by The Hypersomniac hooking his fingers into his eyes and twisting him into a headlock. Captain Sapphire yells, tries to shake The Hypersomniac off his back, then begins to rise, unsteadily into the air. The Hypersomniac tightens his arm around the captain's neck, and Captain Sapphire grunts with strain. They float up, Captain Sapphire chocking and spluttering, his face goes red and hie eyes bulge. They rise to the level of the rocket, wedged in the ceiling. Close up of The Hypersomniac's head, muscles taught with grim determination. A noise make his head dart up suddenly. The camera revolves to reveal the Alien beast. It twitters, and throws itself at The Hypersomniac, and all three plunge to the ground below.
"Admiral, I'm taking the Astraos to ground, we need help."
"Beatrice no! We can win!"
"I'm sorry Admiral. You're losing, and we're alone in deep space. Calculating port co-ordinates..."
The room shakes violently, there is a bright flash of light, and the screens shows the surface of planet earth - a great plain stained red by the setting sun. It grows larger steadily.
"Oops." Says Beatrice. "My co-ordinates were a bit out. Our stabilisers are non-functional. Brace for crash-landing."
"People and equipment tumble about the room as the Contra Astraos lists in its descent.
Fade to black.
Sound of wind, and gentle birdsong.
The image slowly fades back in - The broken ruins of the Contra Astraos, silhouetted by the sunset, forms a spectacular vista. A scrapes and clangs can be heard as people haul themselves from the wreck.
Safiros, covered in grime and dust, bleeding from her head, climbs to the highest peak of the destroyed starship, and plonks herself down to sit beside Captain Sapphire, who's sat holding his knees, face toward the light on the horizon.
Captain Sapphire glares across the landscape. Gravely he announces,
"When people work together in the name of good they can do wonderful things, but when people collude in evil it may seem there is no limit to the evil they can do. These three villains took all the good that we ever did and used it for their own gain, and tossed us aside."
Safiros grips her hands together and stares at her own knuckles. With effort, she smiles weakly. "But you're Captain Sapphire. You're going to carry on doing good anyway aren't you?"
"How can I? Look at the Astraos. We've got nothing."
"How can you not? Look at that." She points to the cityline in distance. "They've got nothing. Except you. Throughout the world there are people that you have the power to help. That we have the power to help. And we're not going to turn away from them. Neither of us. We don't have it in us."
Zephyr floats up behind them. "I'm here beside you captain."
"And me!" Koro-Koro Tank calls up from the ground. "We're still your Saviours!" [i]Captain Sapphire glances down at the wreckage. Far below, the alien beast emerges from a pile of debris, and scampers off into the field. Captain Sapphire can't help but smile at how joyful it seems.
With determination, he stands. The Camera zooms out as the music swells dramatically, the camera lingers on the image of the silhouetted wreckage, the brilliant red sky spreading striking streaks out from the centre. Suddenly the image and music cut to black.
As the credits roll, Captain Sapphire rolls off the sofa onto the floor and stands himself up. He has a look at himself in the mirror. "Where not going to turn away from them." He mutters to himself.
The credits music changes from grandiose to electric poppy stuff. Captain Sapphire dances on his living room floor until the video runs out.
He packs away the video and player. As he's closing the door, he pauses, and goes back into the cupboard. After a little rummaging he re-emerges, triumphant. He holds in his hand a sheaf of white paper. Bound. Typed across the centre of the front page are the words:
CAPTAIN SAPPHIRE: THE MUSICAL
