I actually laughed out loud at this. Mitsoda has been at the head of many trainwreck projects in the past, and no, VTMB wasn't an exception. Doublebear barely managed to cover up expectations and they even released that visual novel that virtually nobody played. I know Bloodlines has many interesting and awesome things, but please, do keep playing after you reach Hollywood in your next playthrough.

It just seems like a typical outcome for one of his projects isn't it.

Time4Tea: If it has microtransactions, they surely wouldn't be able to release it on GOG (as it's not a stand-alone game). At that point, my interest levels would be effectviely zero anyway (they're not far off that atm).
Is, say, Stellaris a stand-alone game? I just searched it and if I count right it has 16 DLC entries sold here. One could argue the typical Paradox model is not all that different from microtransactions. That said, for Vampire it looked like the story DLC was more like a couple bigger RPG content expansions from the advertising, rather than the usual Paradox model, but who knows anymore.

darthspudius: Considering how bad a game the original is, I'm impressed that there are so many fans willingly to mindlessly pre-order this one. The great writing is about the only good thing about it. It was a straight up bad game.

Could be , still firing them this late in the production smells

I haven't played Stellaris, but I'd agree with you that 16 DLCs is probably too many. It's not the sort of thing I like to see.

Time4Tea: I've heard a lot of bad things about this game - things like them trying to shoehorn in some sort of political message.
I don't know how much is true, but I have no expectations. Will wait on the reviews.
I have heard so too. Given how literally every sort of entertainment coming out of USA has some wokeness crap or unwanted political messages, I am in no mood to buy this game.
Will definitely wait for reviews.
Meh, Dead State was fine, most problems were with the engine limitations. Problems with VtMB weren't with Mitsoda- technical issues and delays, Valve blocking release because they were slow with HL2, late patch approval from Activision- indeed he was responsible for a lot of the stuff that worked in that game. Alpha Protocol was a disconnect between those wanting a 'Syriana' type plot (Mitsoda) and those wanting a more camp Roger Moore Bond experience. The plot got very extensively redone, but most of the locations and characters got reused (eg Rome in the released game was Naples in the Mitsoda version, with the ruins being Pompeii).

The only evidence that Mitosoda had anything to do with the delays that have plagued VtMB2 is that the plot had been rewritten enough that they'd (supposedly, though it could just have been PR) already removed Chris Avellone's stuff prior to his recent controversy. Hardsuit's dev history of ~50% metacritic MP games and Paradox's management of external projects- apart from Cities: Skylines' massive success one of almost completely unmitigated failure and incompetence- suggests they are far more likely to be the ultimate issue with VtMB2.

rjbuffchix: I saw a post on a different forum saying the reason for the firings was something to due with microtransactions...however, this wasn't sourced with anything as far as I could tell.
There isn't any evidence, and I would suspect the post was made sarcastically/ was not serious, but referring to:

1) Paradox's new(ish) CEO having a free-to-play phone game background.
2) The consultant guy they've brought in working on lots of AAA games with MTX.
3) Paradox having a history of releasing dozens of often extremely minor dlc.

Zanderat: In your opinion.............
It's quite an objective one to be honest. The gameplay is clunky, the combat is laughable, half of the game was rushed so much that it feels like a different game, the werewolf comes out of nowhere and you don't know how to react... sure, the game has many good things, but let's not pretend there's a heavy case of rose tinted glasses type of stuff about it.

Let see - clunky gameplay and laughable combat are opinions, and as such *objectively* subjective by their very nature. Game that feels like different game and werewolf, okay. So what? I should care about that?

I'll get to the point - judging game/art can NEVER be anything but subjective thing, because it ultimately comes to the personal taste and preferences, dependent by feelings of player playing it. Anybody trying to pass aesthetic judgement for objective fact has some serious narcissism issues.

BlueMooner: Or maybe the bosses wanted to add more pandering for all the delicate heteros out there who've clearly been so upset at the rumor of pronouns and a gay character. Maybe Mitsoda was fired for refusing to add more hetero content, because 98% wasn't enough, and he refused to kiss the hetero flag.
What are you talking about....no rational minded soul minds if lgbt characters or pronouns are in games.

(In fact[for reasons listed below] I like and appreciate such when such is done well, and is added for the right reasons)

avatar
BlueMooner: One way to understand a person's perspective is to see how they fill in the blanks when an explanation is unknown, since they'll usually fill it in with their own beliefs/biases. Seems to me your perspective invariably has a negative, oppositional attitude about sexual minorities in games, gamerager, which is why it's confusing when you then wonder why sexual minorities have to clamor so much in the first place for the few tiny crumbs they actually get.
Such groups actually get plenty of inclusion in games and other entertainment media(and sometimes it's even done quite well), especially over the last decade or more...where have you been?

(Also btw: I'm actually IN said groups(lgbt) and I find the pandering and signaling in some such cases to be somewhat insulting, as [for starters] it is essentially virtue signaling/tokenism evolved for the sake of making money in a good number of cases

i.e. it turns part of my identity into just another way to make money, and turns me into a walking wallet to such game/media makers)

avatar
BlueMooner: In the article Mitsoda said his firing came out of the blue, and he had no idea why he was fired. He made no mention that the bosses had any problems with his writing, so blaming his writing suggests personal bias on your part not based on fact.
I was just making guesses(same as everyone else), not saying outright that that was the reason.

avatar
BlueMooner: Implying he wouldn't cave to the "sjw agenda" is as plausible as suggesting he wouldn't cave to the ajw agenda. And since there's no evidence for either, MAYBE people can discuss this game without more of this drivel polluting it. Thanks.
And maybe you could please be so kind as to let people discuss ALL aspects of the topic civilly without possibly trying to tell people what is worth talking about?

--------

As for the staff firing theory being drivel.....look at the LOU2 debacle.:

Look how many staff quit over being made to denigrate and put down others while making the game(specifically biological males and christians).

Add to that the fact of how said staff with opposing beliefs and stances were allegedly treated while working on the game, and it only adds more credence that it could happen at other game companies as well.

--------

Of course, all that said:

They (Vtmb2 staff) could've been let go for other reasons as well, this is true.....but without them or the company coming forward we'll likely never know the true reasons.

An aside....you know what i'd like to see more of re lgbt in games and media?

More actually well done characters**....ones where the fact they are lgbt isn't so cringingly "in your face", or so obviously shoehorned in for diversity points.

(**=And original ones, for the most part.....not established characters turned lgbt out of the blue)

Also i'd also like to see such done more without game/media makers near/outright putting down(or cutting content of) another group to do so.

-------------------

Edit: 30 minutes and this is deeply buried with red marks. o.0

So tell me low raters, what about it was/is so offensive?

Wanting more good representation for my fellow lgbt in games and other media?

Or wanting similar and equal treatment of other groups while doing so?

If it comes down to a creative disagreement, it could be about where to go with the expansions, in which case the storyline in the main game might not be affected.

At least in regards to the "trans"-part Cyberpunk 2077 may actually be the one to pull it off. With transhumanism and normalized body-modification being integral not only to world-building but undoubtedly to characterization and story-telling as well.

And given CDPR's trade-mark "balanced" writing with tons of greys and no discernible or distinct favouring of one side over the other it's almost certain that, at least on the street-level non-corporate side of things nobody is going to receive any special treatment and everybody has the potential to get fucked by life all the same.

Well from that much and CDPR press releases it seems they are handling those aspects of CP2077 much better than other companies(like Naughty Dog), so I hold out good hope for that game. :)

(also thankfully the good or decent handling of such things in their games seems to be a hallmark of CDPR games in general)
