F4LL0UT: ...will only be launched in the emulated environment of DOSBox where they can't even possibly do any harm
Hmm, while DOSBox will probably contain an old virus written for the DOS environment, modern malware that knows what it's doing would probably have a really easy time running Z:\MOUNT Y C: and spreading itself out of the box that way.

Would be pretty unexpected to find such in the wild, but who knows what people will do.

Damn, hadn't thought of that. Would have to be a virus specifically written for DOSBox but damn, it actually works. Such activity would be comparably easy to spot, though. Still, I guess it could do a lot of harm if someone published it on say an abandonware website, masked as a classic game.

But as I said, as it turns out the files reported as viruses seem to be Windows applications that were added in Forever (while the game itself is still a DOS program).

To anyone concerned, I have received a statement from Avira regarding the suspicious file in the Rayman archive, You can read it here:

https://analysis.avira.com/en/status?uniqueid=QH9xHU2c9RmGhOMVwTyxrsOkXGTLP223&incidentid=1804837

That is the kind of information GOG should provide as an explanation to the concerned parties. I am still waiting for reports from the three other labs, but I presume they will arrive to a similar conclusion.

Hey cut him some slack, he's just being careful.

Extremely, overly, clinically, annoyingly, headache inducingly careful, but careful just the same. :D
There's a HUGE difference between being careful and paranoid to the point that you make a thread and then you act like a huge jackass while playing victim and thinking that your word is the word of fucking God.

His word is coming out of YHVH Himself(I'll get you after this, you lemon faced bastard,Zordon knockoff motherfucker) and only he know that we are acting in pure dick-sucking and we can't tell if a virus infected our computors if slapped us the fucking face.

So let me get this straight. Avira knows this detection is a false positive, but will not remove said warning? Excuse me while I go facepalm.

Well, they claim that the files were previously infected and that the removal of the virus was done improperly, and that fragments of the malicious code are still present. But if it's a false positive, the program should report a warning and this explanation, not claim that the files are actually infected (i.e. capable of spreading and/or performing unauthorized actions on the affected computer).
