jamyskis: Even if I'm inclined to agree that his worldview seems to be very much shaped by the United Russia propaganda machine, it would probably be more appropriate if you didn't judge him by his nationality. It's racist, and it lowers you to the level of those who peddle such stories about all Muslims being violent and "invaders".
No, it's not racist. I call him out for the bullshit that is fed to him by his government, and which he openly embraces.
I know a bunch of Russians here in the US who vehemently disagree with such nonsense. How come these acquaintances of mine don't eat that hogwash like him?

You trying to get this thread locked or something mate? Don't disagree with him or his opinions.

Hunter65536: Actually read an article about it now and apparently they were wearing hijaabs while doing it. I can certainly understand how someone might think that's a bastardization of their tradition.

timppu: i was actually going to mention that. Do you know what makes this funny (in a sad way)? When the (Finnish) kids dress themselves as witches, they wear a head scarf, not really different from a hijab. (For those who don't know, hijab is the one where your face isn't covered, only your hair/ears/neck. So the face itself is still fully visible.).

http://hijab-ista.com/category/hijabs/

This is what the Finnish, even Christian, kids usually look like when wearing "Easter witch" costumes:

So if anything, wearing a hijab fits this particular tradition quite well, IMHO.
If that's the case then I'm sorry I spoke without knowing the details of the matter. I assumed hijaabs to be black, the same ones I see here in India and felt that might not be apt for a festive occasion. (Given how black is a color worn during mourning in the west)

Now they came to you, to learn more about democracy. You destroyed theirs home. But didn't built a new one. Demonized and killed theirs leaders (Saddam Hussein, Moammar Gaddafi). You have to pay now.
Ehh, the guy is greek, what he has to do with that ? But I do agree with you that the US fucked things up.

Watch Putin here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELZdkcc09aA

Love him or hate him, he's right.

Wait, what? I must have missed the memo on this one, but since when have threads like these started closing? I noticed one thread that closed and was like "meh." But if this is a trend I'm worried about GOG and censorship.

Agree. We westerns are just not used for this kind of shit. When people are going all "omg ISIS are so brutal" like they are the most evil and cruel folks ever makes me cringe. It's horrible, of course, but unfortuenly it's nothing special from an historic point of view.

I found this three in seconds just by using my godly Google-powers...
Yeah, I've heard of these guys. They are relevant to a discussion about MUSLIM terrorists laying waste to Brussles how exactly? I mean for any purpose other than making a somewhat disingenuous argument about there being bad apples in every barrel?

I think the problem is that a lot of us grew up in the 1990s, which was arguably the most stable decade politically in a long time, certainly in the 20th century. Sure, there were isolated national conflicts, but Europe was at its most stable, the US had a president whose biggest crime was argued to be allowing himself to be sucked off by his secretary, the Oslo Accords brought about probably the quietest period in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (relatively speaking - we're talking before Hamas really started kicking off). Sure, there were a lot of isolated national conflicts, but nothing that really threatened geopolitical stability on a larger scale.

And I think a lot of people draw upon that period as a reference, especially as the world had just come out of the Cold War in 1989. Noone in the US or Europe had really personally experienced such a period of peace.

Compare it to now: the US is threatened by the prospect of an incompetent, ill-tempered, dishonest megalomaniac coming to power (I'll reserve the concept of "potential dictator" for now because I believe that the US political system is arguably robust enough to prevent that from happening), the far right is once again storming through Europe, striving to undermine the very institutions that have kept Europe stable since WW2, the Middle East is about as unstable as it ever was, and Russia has become a dictatorship once again.

When you compare the 90s against now, it's not hard to be pessimistic.

Hijabs can be any colour. Here I've seen flowered ones, red ones, blue ones, pink ones, ones with German flags, ones with British flags, Halloween-themed ones.

Niqabs on the other hand - make of them and their social acceptability what you will - tend to be only black.

My condolences to victims of attacks.

Its a mass massacre directed against the public.

This pretty much depicts my opinion: (1) (2)*

*(2) also contains typical western press lies:
1) Voice over says that "Putin is so sure of his hold over EU" - which Putin never expressed and not implied.
2) They skipped tiny part in middle of his speech where Putin said, that Russia is a multi-confessional country.

Scary stuff, luckily everyone I know in the area is safe.

My sister & her husband are stuck in their office buildings for now though.

I had a classmate who wore hijaab to school and it was black. Her parents changed it to a niqab later on after coming to 9th grade. So I've seen both and was under the impression that black was the standard color for both.

Yes, I was the one that reported it to Judas. Problem with that?

I reported it because I was sick of the overt racism in that thread. I worked with refugees until recently (had to stop due to health issues) and had enough to do far-right dickheads in real life, including getting my own obituary shoved through my front door by a local far-right group along with a dog turd. So you'll excuse me if I have absolutely no fucking tolerance or patience for people who encourage hatred against people just on the basis of their religion, country of origin or skin colour. That thread wasn't a political discussion. It was a political extremist circlejerk. I'd seen more rational discussions on UKIP or PEGIDA forums.

You seem to think I have some buddy-buddy relationship with Judas and that he's at my beck and call. The only thing I influenced was the timing. It would have been shut sooner or later, with or without my involvement. The thread was already in GOG's crosshairs.

This was really mean-spirited, but it still made me laugh so loud I spit my drink :)

AFAIK color really depends on preference.
