Came to this website back in June 2010 after spending a few years roaming the Abandonia website for DOSBox games, which I was quite satisfied with.

I feel that GOG has gotten worse these past few years. I see no point in GOG Galaxy when we already have the GOG downloader. At first you had to get and manage all your downloads off site, which to me is the best option because there is no hassle involved.

Galaxy just feels like a tacked on program and after tinkering with it for the better part of a hour or two I have decided not to use it until it gets better.

I don't know how many of you have been here as long as I have but I honestly feel this website was much better in 2010. It ran much faster and everything was easy to spot. Now the site runs slower and it is filled with garbage that I couldn't care less about.

Also the very idea of EA getting involved will be the nail in the coffin.

What do you guys think? Has it changed for the better or for the worse?
EA? Isn't that a rumour that has been around for the past 3 years and denied every time?
I think I've been around longer.

Definitely GOG started great and is becoming poorer and poorer, mostly on every aspect.

This winter sale made me do some purchases, but I stopped by at least a couple of months before.
Overall direction of the business is difficult to predict, nor how much longer will survive.

Having EA in the shop can't see how will affect it adversely, unless GOG implement DRMs to have them join.

The best part about Goglaxy is that it is still optional.

I have been around longer, since about March 2009

It has definitely had a dip that's for sure, the site design isn't that great, I dont mind galaxy, but its only hit the big time last year, so its going to take some time to improve, at least I hope so

EA only paid a visit due to the requests to sell EA's back catalog, EA isnt buying GOG or anything like that, that rumor has been put to bed, so dont worry about it.

but everything has its ups and downs, lets hope 2019 is a brighter year for the site.

I like galaxy, but I like even more that its optional.

Galaxy is there for customers that expect a client to do the work for them. Those migrating from Steam.
Don't know why you would need downloader. Browser - any browser of your choice, not just some store only software - can do the job just as well (well apart from IE which can't even open M$ websites it's that bad).
But yes, in a fair few ways GOG has got worse. Galaxy particularly was a big cliff, not just for trying to cement the the online online setup which clients are there for and is far worse than drm, but also for the crowd they bring and they demands they have. Multiplayer this, achievements that.
The website has always been pretty bad, forum always broken, but it seems to have really gone downhill after Trent to copy other stores approaches like having auto play youtubes for games and such like.
On a brighter note there have been a few notable releases over the last few years. And we can - after a lot of complaining and changes, still download offline installers without galaxy and in the most part without files from it. Which is at the end of the day the only reason to buy here.
People say with the epic store opening and every single program having its own client/store like tv that next year will be the end, who knows, not much point worrying about it though.

Well yes, offline downloader is the best choice. I have used the GOG downloader but found no real changes so I didn't have it all that long.

Galaxy is their cheap way of trying to be more relevant like Steam. I don't care about the achievements or any of that extra fluff, I care about the games being offered.

GOG to me is nothing like Steam because this place is more for the niche audience who wants to relive and play the classics. New games from 2015 forward are fine, but I shop for new games on Steam anyway.

The store layout back in 2010 - 2012 was better.

CD Projekt Red is best left independent. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is probably my favorite game this generation that I played on another platform, but they're just not the best when it comes to designing a website.

EA gets by with bullying smaller companies, buying them out and then completely changing their philosophies. Their Origins program was complete crap, and I can't even imagine how shit GOG would be if EA was in charge. Just no.

What I see of GOG these days is they're trying to expand to a broader audience. I loved this place when it first started out. But often when someone tries to expand they lose focus of the core audience they once had.

We all get older and become more judgemental, and eventually we have to move on. In my opinion, GOG.com isn't as good as it was several years ago.
It's slower than I remember, and due to the lack of regional pricing it's often way, way more expensive than steam. And I'm not too nuts about some design choices either, not to mention some persistent issues with the forum. But eh, I don't know, I still like coming here and hanging around in the forums for the occasional friendly exchange (forum does seem far less lively compared to years ago though). That and, I much prefer not having to run a game through a client.

It worse since the CNC remasters will likely be origin only, which makes me rage.

What pissed me off years ago was when EA decided to make the original Command and Conquer free, but did nothing to give it any support whatsoever.

I would love for there to be an open source Command and Conquer. Not just the original nor Red Alert, but also Tiberian Wars and a couple of their later games. Absolutely loved Tiberian Wars back when it came out.

Having Diablo 2 get a remaster and a good modding community would be a pipe dream. But nope.

There is Open RA, which supports CNC, RA 1, Dune 2000, and Support for Tiberian Sun is coming too, and Red Alert 2 and Yuri's revenge support has entered initial stages, sadly unless someone gets the balls to reverse engineer CNC 3's engine...it would be nice.
I've been around longer than you and I have most probably read this topic more times than you.
