Threadripper definitely looking like it'll be a beast.

Shots fired at Intel hehe
AMD does seems even more attractive with the Ryzen but the brand gives very little selection of Mini-ITX motherboards for those wanting to switch from Intel.

For me, it would mean I would have to get a new case, as well as a new motherboard. Maybe even a new PSU.

You would need a new motherboard either way, as the Ryzen CPU doesn't fit into any of the older boards.
Same goes for the new Threadrippers, they need a whole new board, not even Ryzen boards could hold that beast.

Likewise, you also need an AM4 cpu bracket for some of the older coolers, but some nice chaps also send out free AM4 brackets to suit older coolers.

Then again, some of the Ryzen chips do come with a cooler, some are even RGB ;)

PSU wise, Ryzen doesn't use much power at all, so guess it depends what your current PSU is & what you'd plan to use in new build. If PSU is getting on in age, always worth getting a new one anyway.

There's rumours of a mini board en route, sure saw images recently, but forgot where. D'Oh! hehe.

Case wise, check out Kolink. They have some really cheap cases.

I have seen one around:

It seems that's about it in terms of selection. Like you said, I may have to buy a new cooler as well or maybe the stock will suffice unlike Intel stocks.

Nice. Slightly (but only slightly) pricier than was expecting compared to larger boards, but still good.
Noticed beneath it 1700 prices & spec'.

Thermal Design Power 65W
AMD Wraith Spire Cooler Included.

Seen that cooler on youtube clips & it's tiny, so should fit with ease in smaller towers with space to spare.
Sweet. I've heard the Witcher 3 seems to be one of those games that uses more CPU than usual so this CPU might help with that as my current on is a Intel i5 4690k.
Mentioned how small the Wraith cooler was a bit back, especially compared to the (great, but) massive EVO212.
You can see it in action in this clip that shows AdoredTV doing a Ryzen 1700/580 pc build.

The availability of AM4 motherboards has been lagging behind since Ryzen's release. Mini-ITX boards are on catalogue or planned with Asrock, Gigabyte and Biostar at the very least.
By the way, EPYC (no pun) launch today

For mini-ITX you probably need APUs ("Bristol Ridge" or "Raven Ridge") which are not on the market yet.
There's another option if you're wanting something small.
Ryzen laptops.

Biostar has one released (AX370GTN), it's just near constantly out of stock due to demand- and Biostar doesn't have the best rep either nor great availability outside the US. It's a 370 based board, so definitely designed for 'full' Ryzen rather than an APU. A few others have been shown as well, but none launched yet.

There are three chipset designs that have no (at least not that I'm aware of) motherboard usage yet which probably will see extensive use with APUs and small form factors plus laptops though- A320 and X/A300 series.

Some less nown companies sometimes make strange devices in order to surprice customers and gain attention. One time I came across a motherboard with 478 socket (for Pentium 4) and support foor up to 6 GiB of RAM. Six gigabytes of RAM for a 32bit-only processors!
I see ths as exactly the same case: the motherboard has only 2 slots for RAM and hardly any space for a high-profile discrete video card, yet it packs overclocking chipset for a CPU with a cooling system as big as the motherboard itself. It is like an attempt to merge perfomance and compactness in one thing. Risky!
Yeah, mITX has to have trade offs. I'd presume the difficulty in balancing performance against practicality is the main reason why there are so few AM4/ ITX form factor boards even announced, let alone released. I'd presume that experience with other small form factors and laptops may help in future, and there are a couple of 'full' Ryzen laptops announced.
My current motherboard has space for only one GPU as well. Thank you for the replies. It helps to put things into perspective on the AMD front. What's the AMD processor right before Ryzen? For gaming desktops, of course.
