We're guarding our lawns.
No offense to the creator of unofficial forum and the people who hang out there but it looks like Necropolis(almost dead).

That's because it was made less than 24 hours ago.
Also there was another Unofficial GOG forum made and that didn't take off either unfortunately. We may just be better off making a Steam group or something. I think the problem with the forums is that a lot of people don't want to sign up for something new, but most people have a steam account even if they don't use it.

I made one a long time ago that we can use http://steamcommunity.com/groups/GoGGamingClub if anyone wants to join it.

If you guys decide you want to use it I'll make some of the more well known GOGers mods in it.

I'm pretty sure that's at least the third or fourth GOG Steam group, including the unofficially official one:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/gogcom

Or the not yet official one:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/goodoldgames

Of course there is also the gift club, though that is less of a community and more specifically focused on facilitating gifting:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/GOGGIFT

Point being, a Steam community is not the solution. It's been tried, with some success, but all it really has done is create separate spaces where the community segregated itself.

Yeah I know. I made it a few years back. I was just saying we could use it as a alt forum or something. That way it would be moderated.
You know our reddit sub is also an option... if you don't mind reddit. It does have 4400 subscribers and that's pretty much like a forum of sorts.

Maybe it'll be the thing that finally gets me on Reddit.
high rated
When I came here first I thought the forum was not fit for purpose, there were no "sub-forums" other than those for specific games. But actually the forum is fit for purpose, there are functions that are pretty crap like "search" etc. But, on the whole it is fit for purpose.

The problem is the community that frequents the forum, There are some really helpful generous people here and some that are not, there are some that are wise and some that are other-wise.

Looking at this forum and all the bickering begs a few questions.

Do we really need a 50 page debate on the greek referendum on a game forum? Do we need a 50 page debate on the DRM of a tiny DLC facet of Victor Vran? These are just two examples off the top of my head.

I came here to buy Victor Vran because someone mentioned GOG on the Steam forums, after reading through all the bickering I decided I didnt want to buy the game here because it didn't seem to be a friendly place to discuss the game, same with the reviews, on Steam the game has 97% positive rating, here the game has 3.5 stars because of a bit of DRM on a small DLC that is not needed and is since removed. I was going to buy Agarest GoW 2 here but the reviews are mostly one star because the game is censored, Seriously?

This is a really negative place at times and it is very off putting.

So, the question of moderation or moving to a new unofficial forum?

No,it doesnt need moderation or moving elsewhere, if people used a bit more common sense.

If someone trolls you, dont reply (FORUM 101 really), just ignore them, a one hand clapping troll is a joy to behold. Make your point and leave it at that, none of the round-in-circle debates that leave a 50 page popcorn sellers dream. If you cant make your point in one post your are not doing it right, if you do need to expand, be sure to do it in a friendly way, if it gets antagonistic, then drop it, you are not going to prove your point to someone who wont listen and on the internet, nobody gives a damn.

You have been a great audience, I also do weddings and Bar-Mitzvahs, Thank you and goodnight.

I was curious, are any of the ones you listed active in chat a lot? I use Steam and love to chat sometimes, but I haven't really found a place to chat besides steamgifts.

Don't know, I don't use Steam's social features.

Careful, it sounds awfully like you're trying to threaten someone's freedom of speech right now!

Surely 'tis just censorship to suggest that a gaming forum doesn't need political discussion on it. Right?
