vidsgame: I am interested in Mesa but I'm still very new to repositories as it is advised to add them through the terminal. Like in the case of Wine, I basically copy and pasted everything in the terminal until stuff started working because the Wine version in the Software Manager is out of date.

Are you talking about this website?: https://www.mesa3d.org/
Yes, but you will want to use a PPA to install it. Unfortunately as I said before Padoka's Stable Mesa PPA has stopped supporting Ubuntu 16.04 (and by extension Mint 18.x) so that limits the available options. I remember an official PPA was created to provide newer stable Mesa releases but that quickly became outdated.

Oibaf's PPA still supports Ubuntu 16.04 but the Mesa versions provided are the very latest development builds so there's a higher risk of encountering issues with them. If you want to try it this is Oibaf's PPA.

You can add it by going to System Settings --> Software Sources --> PPAs --> Add new PPA...

Copy + paste this into the pop up dialogue (it'll automatically do this if you copy it beforehand): ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers
then click "OK" and then click the button to update the cache.

Next open the Update Manager and refresh - the updated Mesa & related packages should show up ready for installation. Simply install them & reboot.

That's a great idea to admit to pirating stuff on a forum of a store that's selling it. :P

I've read that Linux Mint 19 might fix this or at least get an updated version of Mesa.

I'm patient enough as it comes out this month anyway. I'd rather do that than mess around with anything unstable as it seems there are some new issues popping up with Wine being unable to start in some cases due to I have no idea what.

All wrappers have received an update to use innoextract 1.7, with a few other small tweaks to the build and start scripts.

A wrapper is now available for Star Wars: Republic Commando

Another small update is available for all wrappers: Build scripts now return different exit codes on failure. A small bug with the "runwine" command line option has been fixed.

The error codes are:

01: Script was not run with Bash or was attempted to be used on a Windows filesystem
02: Wrapper directory already exists
03: Unrecognised argument specified
04: Wine version not specified
05: Missing one or more dependencies
06: Missing wrapper resource and/or installer file(s)
07: Failed to download Wine package
08: Checksum failed for Wine package
09: Failed to download Winetricks
10: Failed to download an additional resource file
11: Checksum failed for an additional resource file
12: Checksum failed for wrapper resource and/or installer files
13: Failed to unpack Wine
14: Failed to create Wine prefix
15: Failed to unpack installer
16: Failed to unpack resource archive
17: Failed to create tarball
I grabbed Risen 1 & 2 in the sale, and your wrappers work perfectly! :) I grabbed Risen 3 on Steam though (because the price here is a ripoff.. the full price is literally twice as much here as on Steam), and performance is pretty bad. Can you say anything about what DLL-overrides you used to get that one running properly?

Random_Coffee: <snip>
Native d3dcompiler_43, set mesa_glthread=true (for AMD GPUs using open drivers). Strongly recommend disabling water reflections. Performance is generally reasonable enough but it could be better. Also it has a habit of randomly crashing every so often.

With my RX480+open drivers I typically get around 40fps at 1920x1200 with everything maxed, although it can fluctuate a bit depending on the area. DoF, AA and water reflections are disabled.

Thank you. That's almost a night and day difference. I'd say it runs in the 30-40fps area now on 1680x1050 with everything maxed on my RX 470 with open-source drivers. That being said, I get the impression this is very badly optimized on Windows as well.

Run the game with "GALLIUM_HUD=fps" set for a framerate display (you can also have it display other related info: https://manerosss.wordpress.com/2017/07/13/howto-gallium-hud/ )

Thanks so much! I’m going to try it ASAP. I’m astounded that—between all the other work you’ve been doing on your wrappers—you completed this request in only 2.5 months!
I would've done it sooner but I had other things to do first

All wrappers have been updated with a new winewrap.shlib which has improved shortcut creation via the script menus and other small enhancements. In addition, the wrappers for Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Oblivion, Sam & Max series and Total Annihilation now use Wine Staging 3.10 from Lutris (I was hoping to move them on to 3.11 but a 32-bit build of that isn't available from Lutris)

With this update it is easier to create shortcuts to run different executables than the start script's default using the menu - there's no more need to manually enter the cd=/runwine= arguments & file/directory paths for the shortcut :)

When you select the create shortcut option it will now ask if you want to create a shortcut to a different executable. If you accept then you will be prompted to select the executable you want to create the shortcut for (and the working directory if it's not the same as the directory containing the executable). It will then set the shortcut arguments accordingly (and if you later specify any other arguments they will be added to the presets generated by this option rather than replaced)

In addition, for the cd= command line option you can now use Windows-style paths (still case-sensitive) for locations within the prefix.

A beta wrapper for The Witcher 3 GOTY is now available :) Be sure to read the release post & documentation carefully!
Oh, someone feels it finally runs well enough in Wine.
