Shmacky-McNuts: Everytime I see gog posting nsfw content, it seems the thread gives me a chuckle. These titles earn the site money, so all the people complaining can continue buying the safe for work content.

Food for thought.

Darvond: I don't see how any of the carte blanche RPGMaker titles published from the basement barrel that is Kagura Games is incentivizing quality of sale at GOG.
These aren't my kind of games as well ... so far I did not purchase any of them though, so not sure if I would enjoy them ... anyway ... it prbably does not change the point that they seem to sell (which is more or less the main reason why a store is doing anything at all) because otherwise it would mean that GOG would have to support several games that don't even earn them money and I find this hard to believe. Maybe it is the same as always with curation: some like it and some dislike it? Maybe we should make a poll thread to find out how many actually would buy those RPG maker games ... or find those appealing?

Magmarock: Also look at the proportions of the character on the banner of Yu Crossing Animals

You can say she's 18 but those are the proportions of the toddler. Something is deeply wrong with gog at the moment.
avatar
MarkoH01: No idea which banner you are referring to ... but you are aware that these are supposeed to be animals, right? So 18 or not (which is so irrelevant since we are talking about some drawn characters and not actual sex at all) ... who cares? Do we mean human years or animal years? I honestly find the outrage about those NSFW games extremely amusing. It only shows how easy it is today to offend people ... even with some games and pixels. Before these discussions I though that we all here are grown ups and that we all here are aware of the difference between reality and fiction but apparently I was wrong. When it comes to the question "into what GOG is turning to" ... I would recommend to simply count the number of regular games and the number of games with explicit content. Yes, some might argue that those games GOG accepted are not always of the expected quality ... even for AO games ... but the number of those is still so minor that the outrage and the fear of GOG becoming known more for the porn than for the regular games is just ridiculous. But of course that is just my opinion and according to those nay sayers I am a pervert and a sick person anyway, so why should my opinion be relevant - but still I wanted to point it out.

And now the usual "I hate all this sick stuff and we will all die and our children are not safe anymore on GOG" discussion can continue ... without me :)
This long tedious rant tells me more about you that I ever wanted to know. Why must every single solitary site on the internet have porn on it; can you answer me that? Some of us are just sick of it. If you can't function without constant access to porn from every site then you should get off the internet.

I have a simple solution to that: just leave. If the internet makes you so sick, maybe it's better to take a break.

Honestly, at first glance, as a complete layman, these look much better than the RPG Maker copy&paste stuff. Might actually try Dreamcutter eventually. Looks like it could be fun.

I don't particularly care how you detach yourself from the internet. If you think it takes sharp implements, by all means go for it..

Not every website needs porn dude. Maybe get a girlfriend or something and you'll have no further wish to see it.

They don't actually.

Honestly, increasingly, I'm of the opinion that ficticious porn involving drawings and generated art is way preferable than real porn, because you know for a fact that nobody is getting exploited.

Not saying all real porn is exploitative, but with real porn, the door is always open for it to be and you need to thread a lot more carefully.

While the complete absence of sex can certainly be cause for reconsidering a relationship, your significant other's purpose in life is not your sexual gratitication.

They have agency and are entitled not to be in the mood. When that happens and you are really in the mood yourself, alternatives that will not make your relationship implode need to be considered (ie, self-service).

I'm not saying you necessarily need porn for it (you can simply conjure up things in your mind), but there will come a time, in the overwhelming majority of relationships, where you will need to get off without the assistance of your partner.

Great. You could host a website that has exactly what you want and nothing else. The internet is cool like that.

I could also recommend a few porn-free websites if you have so much trouble finding one.

Keep in mind that you are not the center of the world, and sites made by other people are serving other people's interests.
Maybe get a girlfriend or something and you'll have no further wish to see it.
I don't think girlfriends are an appropriate substitute for video games as a medium for storytelling and entertainment.
Wow people are so addicted to porn that the slightest suggestion that it should be moderated is met with NOOOO! STOP TRYING TO CENSOR THE INTERNET. How about we keep video game stores about video games, rather than peddling porn to incels.

I think it should be age restricted (and ultra violent games too btw).

However, I'm in disagreement with your views concerning sexuality in relationships (the extent to which you can reasonably expect it to fulfill your sexual needs and that has some important ramifications with regard to how respectful and healthy you can expect your relationships to be) and the morality of porn, especially the fictitious kind (you describe it as immoral, while I would categorize it more as irrelevant in this regard, especially when consumed by an older audience whose views on sexuality are already pretty well formed).

Magmarock: I would prefer it if games like this weren't sold in the first place to be honest. A proper age verification or porn filter should be the bear minimum, but gog is starting to become known more for porn that games at this point.
We'd also have to remove/hide some shooters if games with a certain age verification should not be sold here.

And about GOG being known for anything ... no. This argument comes up every time a game with even a hint of sexual content is released, but between adult games there's always a lot of other game releases. You should check the store, sort games by release date.
And mind you: not every JRPG has sexual content, which changes the ratio even more in favor of non adult games.

Only the haters know GOG for the adult games. The others see all the rest we get. Only a very small percentage of GOG games is adult oriented.

I see that you run out of arguments and start attacking the 'addicted' writers on a personal level.

If you want to protect children by censoring games, why don't you start with Wolfenstein or the Yakuza series? Why not with Scorn? How about Saints Row IV? Do you want the australian censored version without the anal probe back? Shouldn't we paint blood green or black to protect children or remove it alltogether? How about replacing humans with robots? All this was done in the past to protect children. Would you want these measures to come back?
Wouldn't you agree that only sadistic people addicted to violence or sociopaths are the only ones interested in uncensored violent games?

In AC Valhalla we have drinking contests, who would ask that only people over 21 should be able to play the game?
Who would ask for kids to be 16 (or 18 in Europe) to play driging games?

I think drugs (including alcohol), violence and ruthless driving endanger kids a lot more than nipples do.

I did not want to participate but the things you say are so wrong that you don't leave me a choice.

If it would just be about people being "addicted to porn" why would those need to get it from GOG? On GOG it costs money and porn on the net is perfectly free and easy to access. So something must be wrong with your assumption, right? Well, the key here is that we are NOT talking about simple porn, we are talking about games with adult content in it. You might not like it but we are actually talking about games. Something with a story to get involved to and characters to get attached to. The sexual content is a bonus - an additional layer which you won't get in other genres. This is simply one genre of many and it is as fun and as disgusting as it is to shoot thousands of people in a video game.

One recommendation: If you really want to convince people with your arguments you should not insult them but rather trying to explain to them why you think that they are wrong. Keep in mind that some arguments are only subjective while others are factual. You not liking a certain genre is a perfectly valid opinion but it also is pretty subjective. There are people here that are glad that GOG is accepting new genres like this, same as when they started to accept VNs. No, not everybody likes them but enough for GOG to continue to sell them. Try to see it this way: what would you say if somebody who dislikes a game genre you like wants it to be gone - simply because they dislike it. How would you react? In any case you probably won't be able to win a discussion if you only have subjective arguments since those rarely get changed - on both sides. So maybe you have some arguments that can explain to us what exactly the problem is with having those games here? If you don't like them, don't buy them - I do the same with real time strategy games since years.

Like I stated in my first post, I simply fail to see a problem here other than "I am a guy that does not like to see the option of buying games with sexual content on a site that's not a porn site" because that is all it is. GOG is offering games you dislike and even the shown screenshots (which you can normally only see if you actively click on the game) are extremely tame - more so compared to the screenshots you will often see in violent games without any "careful adult content" warning before you will see them.

And again: regarding your fear of GOG becoming something unspeakable ... like a "porn games only" store. Do yourself the favor and start counting those games and compare them to the number of all the other games. Maybe you will get surprised.

00063: Wanted to get more details on Yu Crossing Animals (don't ask way) and steam showed orange warning message: You must login to see this content, when is gog planning to implement this feature? cause this type of games really need it!

At the end found out that you can play this game via browser on itch.io, so i wouldn't bother with the download.

But seriously, the most likely non-existent GoG curation is at an all time low.
That's because the very first screenshot on Steam is explicit, whereas GOG does not allow explicit screenshots AT ALL. When are people going to understand the difference?

...
Some good point there too.

While I do think some nsfw games are mostly porny, a lot of them are legitimate games with sexual content and given how restricted games have been traditionally in this regard in North America at least, I've found that a liberating change.

The constant separation between the sexual and non-sexual within the context of relationships (with the former being hidden away in traditional storytelling and taking up all the room in porn) can feel forced and infantile. Romantic relationships between adults don't work that way and forcing the separation too much can take away from the immersion I find.

If you're portraying an epic romance involving sexual individuals... yeah, they'll have sex (it is usually an integral part of the narrative) and people who are unhappy about that should just get a grip on reality and deal with it.
