6th floor was a lot nicer than the previous floor. Mummies (can paralyze, but I have Free Action (and I also have Protection from Paralysis, which was very useful on an earlier floor where both enemies could paralyze) and Wyverns (can poison, but I have Neutralize Poison and have used Vampiric Touch to build up my HP, plus poison strength is low).

Wondering when I will encounter enemy spellcasters.

Ring of Wizardry now gives me an extra 5th level spell, but I only have Hold Monster. Ring of Protection +3 is now in my possession and means I now have -5 AC when wearing armor.

Finally found Blur. Still lacking Fireball, and it looks like I'll get Flame Strike first.

Yes, my mage level is now higher than my cleric level.
Floor 7: Otyugs (relatively harmless, especially given that I have so many temporary HP) and Spectres (supposedly drain levels, but none of them managed to land a hit).

Blur doesn't last long. Haste (which I found on this level) lasts longer.

Found Mordenkainen's Sword, so I now have a mage spell of every level. (Of course, I am a long way from being able to actually *use* that spell.)

Level 9/9/10 with 78 HP. From here on, I believe I only gain 1 HP per level so assuming no level drains I should end up with 99 HP at max level. Of course, with Vampiric Touch, does it *really* matter how many regular hit points I have?

I have, I believe, -6 AC now.

Boss of level 7 looked like a fire-breathing dragon and I found it early. The stairs, however, were on the last square I checked. No teleporters, unlike floor 6 which had a fair number of them.

By the way, I found a second Improved Identify scroll.

Edit: Added Vampiric Touch comment.

If you want to hack your Dungeon Hack characters, their stats are actually saved in filenames of the form ITEMS_??.BIN. Just do an ASCII search for your character's name.

HP in excess of your maximum will be lost if you cast a healing spell.

Edit: Also, you can only gain one level per class at a time, even if you somehow get enough experience for multiple levels at once.

This spell is incredibly useful. Once my fighter/cleric/mage was able to cast it, she dealt 50 damage in a single hit.

I tested it (via hacking my experience) but noticed it was only a melee weapon.

Of note, I was level drained and HP went down from 99 to 80. One level up (for a different class) and one Restoration cast and I had 100 HP.
I am only on Lv.3 now (fighting Ghouls and Sheet Ghouls (sic)), and I am getting irritated by constant slowdowns. Each 2 steps I get hourglass and couple sec wait time, which is enough for Ghoul to instantly hit me once or twice and cause Hold. Reloading also takes around 10 seconds, maybe more, anyone knows what can I change to speed things up a bit? i already increased cycles to 15k, but no noticeable effect.

Holding down ALT-F12 will put DOSBox into turbo mode which will speed up loading. Just remember to release it once the game loads.

Also, if you have Protection from Paralysis or Free Action, use it.
A bit more on hex editing saves:

Memorized spells start at or shortly after $6F0 in the file. A value of FF means you do not know the spell. Changing the right value should let you learn any spell you want by hacking.

Well, I used my own conf file from other game with DoosBox 73 instead of 74 (and a bit worse sound). It is much more smoother in game now, though loading still takes quite a time.

I didn't find any such spell on my current paladin. I only have 2 potions (unidentified), so basically "Load Game" is the solution to counter "Hold". I slightly forgot the way these games worked, e.g. can't cast spell without Holy Symbol equipped, which kind of defeats the purpose of having Paladin. Any other penalty for having Paladin over pure Fighter?

Not really, except that Paladins level a bit more slowly and can't multiclass (and this game does not implement dual classing).

Personally, I think a better choice is to play a Half-Elf Ranger/Cleric (Ranger over Fighter because of a higher level cap). This way, you get all the cleric spells rather than just a handful. (According to the manual, you only get a handful of first level spells and the slow poison spell as a paladin.) You can then dual-wield Spiritual Hammers and don't need to worry about being unlucky with item distribution.

You can leave the Holy Symbol in the pouch to the right of your hands and just move it when you need to open the spell menu. Once the spell menu is open, you can unequip the Holy Symbol and still cast spells. This is useful if you want to dual wield Spiritual Hammers or Flame Blades. (Beware, while dual wielding Flame Blades, you can't equip the Holy Symbol. Spiritual Hammers do not have this issue,)
Well, I am done with Ghoul level. Strangely, floor master was Wererat (270 EXP), which was significantly weaker than ghouls around. Experience difference with Fighter class doesn't seem significant. i got 2 level-ups on this level alone (I avoided killing respawns, and I have monster density at 4). Statistics attached.

Edit: 4th floor features Meazels (120 EXP) and Gargoyles (420 EXP). Huge downgrade from the ghouls on Floor 3.

Sure thing. It's not an independent summoned creature like in other games. But it still does a truckload of damage. I used it in my off-hand with a nice magical longsword in my first hand and hardly any regular monster was able to withstand those two attacks. So I was basically able to kill almost anything that came my way in the first round.
4th Floor cleared. Occasional hiccups make kiting very-very hard though (especially Ghost Warrior floor master). Statistics attached. Also strange thing, I disabled teleporters when I was choosing difficulty, and I got dungeon level with them.

Edit: Entered Floor 5 and got insta-killed by some harpy-looking monster right at entrance O.o -.- *sigh*

Edit 2: Apparently it was cockatrice (I didn't manage to get proper look of monster 1st time). Seems that it has turn to stone ability, so this level is going to be reload-fest.

I had that enemy as well, but the *other* enemy had level drain capabilities, and Negative Plane Protection only protects against one attack per casting. Fortunately, it got less painful after that level.
