Hello !

I've bought DD which after a few minor workarounds worked on Wine 100% without issues, even better then on Win7 (so I hear ;)).

DD is a good game and while I hear that Beyond Divinity isn't as good I still thinking about buying it.

The WineDB doesn't promises much, but the "wine review" of this game is old.
How well does Beyond Divinity runs on Wine at this point ?

Thanks
Maxim.

I can't comment on how well BD runs on Wine. I can say that it has issues that are unique to the game which are hard to correct. Inventory corruption if not run in Windows 98 compatibility mode, voice acting that will make you cringe, frame rate problems and an interface that is nothing like Divine Divinity's interface. Basically, a whole new game that does not look or play like DD. I played about half way through the game and just could not get into the game / story. I deleted it yesterday when I realized I had not played it in several months. I REALLY liked DD but BD is not the same game. DD II is the actual follow-up to DD but it does have DRM still and is not available on GOG.

I would suggest looking at Sacred Gold here on GOG if you want a similar game. It is very much like DD with some unique differences that I enjoyed. Only negative I had was the re-spawn of the bad guys. I soon learned to use that to my advantage as it allowed me to level up quicker. After a certain level the lesser bad guys re-spawned but would ignore you unless you attacked them. 90 + hours of game play for me (the game keeps up with your game time)

Edit: Heads up on Sacred Gold "This game isn't compatible with some Intel integrated graphics cards. Details can be found here. Patched to version 2.28" Not a problem for me but thought you should be aware of the Intel thing.

Hope someone gives you advice on BD on Wine, I apologize for the unsolicited review . . . =)

I've actually bought a native Linux version of Sacred Gold from LGP, it's indeed a very fun game and unique.
You levelup like a madman but sadly most of the items you get are not that exciting and often it's hard to tell which item/weapon is better (not like in Diablo or DD).

I've finished the Sacred Gold as a mage and it was actually very easy (using mostly one skill, the fire ring or something...).

Are there any other RPG games you can recommend ?
I already own :
BG1, BG2, NWN, FO1, FO2, FOT .

Also still waiting a reply about the BD on Wine as with the current price if it runs good, I'm buying it.

I'm playing Planescape: Torment right now. Really like the game but it is not a hack n slash. It does have a great story. There is also a mod post here on GOG that has made the game seem "modern", I will try to find and post the link.

Link to PST Mods post . . . here you go . . . =)

Also check out Arcanum, I really enjoyed it as well.

Thanks.
I've remember playing Arcanum several years ago with mixed feelings.
PST is on my list.

But currently I just want to play a "stupid" hack-n-slash game ;)
DD really got me there, I suspect I'll finish it soon :(

Sadly I've missed the sale of this game by several hours (didn't get an email about it), but it's not an cRPG from what I hear, it's like HOMM3 (which is the best Heroes game imo, but it's strategy - not RPG).
