svfn: thanks. yea 1600x900 is my native lol.

i created a custom resolution for 1920x1080 in Nvidia CP and this is the result with fullscreen integer scaling:
https://i.imgur.com/vdOfsTL.png

seems to have scaled it back to fit my monitor, i don't think i would play this boxed in lol.

without integer scaling:

galneon: Wow, that first screenshot is really interesting. I'd expect the image to be blurred, but it looks good. Sometime I'll have to try a custom resolution of ~2132x1200 to see what happens with 800x600 content.
yea it is noticable. i guess i will have to live without it for now until i upgrade this old monitor, 4:3 is fine but can't stand the 4 boxed corners!

this is a screenshot of The Hell's default wrapper in comparison with your screenshot posted on page2. you can see the Schaefer clearer with integer scaling :P

oh well, wish i could rebuild my old Pentium MMX and fire up an actual 4:3 screen or CRT for Diablo and others.

Yes, the cursory effect of the distortion added by bilinear scaling can work to the advantage of some shapes, making the sign a bit more legible, but it is still distortion not present in the source data. ;) A lot of people prefer the soft look, but some of us like it sharp and 100% faithful (well, 100% faithful for most games from the last 30 years... Let's not get into games developed for displays with non-square pixels :P).
check out diablo the hell 2 mod on moddb.com

it features many qol improvements, boots, belts, and armor, hellfire dungeon levels, improved soundtrack, and new quest areas. it is undergoing very active developments, with new releases every 2 weeks. there is also a very active discord community.
Where is the Hellfire expansion at? All I see is Diablo for $10 but no option to buy hellfire.

You need to either download an ISO or own an original CD for Hellfire, as GOG's version doesn't have it.

There is also a mod which adds some of the stuff from Hellfire, but also changes alot of other things in Diablo.
Also, this is probably a no brainer, but just in case someone is browsing this forum looking for the answer...
If, like me, you completed Diablo before installing Hellfire, you CAN transfer your save file over. All you need to do is go to your Diablo folder and find the single_0.sv file. Copy this into your Hellfire folder and rename it to single_0.hsv

That's it!

Just beware that items do NOT carry over, however gold does. If you have heaps of gold, have it in your inventory when you save your Diablo game then transfer your save over. You could also sell all your gear as well to get extra gold. You'll essentailly be starting a new game with a levelled character and gold.
I would definitely +1 for adding Hellfire officially. I guess it was made by a different company, so I doubt GoG has the rights. Some clarification by GoG staff would be appreciated though.
As some of you might have noticed. Hellfire Enhanced does NOT make Hellfire playable in multiplayer.

An error message "Unable to create character" appears. Also no choice for playing lan / battle.net appears. Too bad...

Anyone got a solution?

because mutliplayer saves for Hellfire was coded to be created in C:\Windows (it was 1997), you will need to run Hellfire as admin, then it will be able to write to the folder and create your character.

i have not tried Hellfire Enhanced but would recommend Hellfire v1.02.A5 mod, it also adds UDP option:

Hellfire also had no battle.net support, so only IPX via LAN.

So.. Were you ever able to figure out how to run HF in GOG's dx wrapper? or has anyone else figured it out? I'm getting bad scaling (not pixel perfect) when I follow the guide in the first post

Yep you were right. Embarassingly easy solution.
Pond86 Thank you making this topic. I have not played diablo or hellfire for 21 years! Time to play!

MrPerfect.407: The Hellfire v1.01 patch installer is a 16bit .exe, so it won't run on any 64bit version of Windows. Back when I first moved from 32bit XP to 64bit W7, I came up with a workaround for that problem. By installing Hellfire on an old 32bit XP machine and then comparing the Hellfire game files before and after applying the patch, I found that all the patch did was create three new .TXT files (Hellfire.txt, Patch.txt and Version.txt) and change three game files( sierra.inf, hellfrui.dll and hellfire.exe ). If you copy those three files onto a 64bit PC's version of Hellfire, you've patched it.

The only hard part is getting a hold of those files. If you have an old PC sitting around, that would help. If not, maybe use a virtual machine.
Thanks for info! I had old windows XP machine, order to run hellfire patch.

Waldschatten: it wold be a real shame if you weren't able to use it thanks to some obnoxious licensing

sidv88: Considering that Sierra made the expansion, and Sierra after a long chain of events was bought out by Activision Blizzard, unless I'm missing something there's no legal reason they can't use the expansion.

I think the lack of rerelease of the expansion is more due to Blizzard not wanting to bring it back into canon. They've shown a reluctance to canonize expansions not developed by them directly, as seen with Starcraft Insurrection and Retribution, or Warcraft 2's 4 authorized expansions other than Beyond the Dark Portal.
Actually there might be a legal reason:
Sierra might have just been the publisher/distributor of the game;another studio actually designed the game and the rights eventually reverted to them and were not included when Activison acquired Sierra.
Heads Up:If you have a Windows 64 bit system, you will have to use the create a new folder and paste method in the OP's instructions. Set up for hellfire would not run; apparently is suffers from the infamous "windows 64 bit does not like 16 bit install programs" syndrome. Don't waste time trying to make it work, just use the paste method in the OP. it works fine.
