Not sure what "unofficial patch" is refering to but if it's DevilutionX then it doesn't need to run it as administrator.

i am referring to the patch and not the source port. the patch is called version 1.02 and it adds back multiplayer, which was removed in version 1.01. i have had it for a while however. as a results of it being in my posession for a while, i do not remember when i installed it. it was some time before 2019 i believe. in order to save in multiplayer, and also in order to create characters, i have to run it as administrator. it is an easy solution however.

You appear to be against using DevilutionX despite the maintainer of that mod recommending it, any particular reason?

i often play with the bard character and your sorce port does not support bard. we discussed this already however.

It does support the bard...

don't know if op asked about that originally or its from you but i followed the guide on devilutionx's github and put all the mpqs in the same folder as the mod and enabled all classes in settings and I believe im playing bard rn (female, swords in each hand, can use more magic than warrior, skill ability is identify etc)
