Description

Following the critically acclaimed 2014 Game of the Year winner Wasteland 2, the RPG series that pioneered the post-apocalyptic genre in video games returns with Wasteland 3.

In Wasteland 3 you take command of a squad of Desert Rangers, lawmen and women in a post-nuclear world, trying to rebuild society from the ashes. More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.

You’re dispatched on a desperate quest from the scorching deserts to the snowy mountains to start from scratch, building a new base, finding a snow-worthy vehicle, training new recruits, and fighting your way through hostile frozen wastes. All the while, you'll have to decide who to trust in this land torn apart by corruption, intrigue, warring factions, crazed cultists, cutthroat gangs, and bitter sibling rivalries. Build a reputation for yourself by making decisions that will profoundly impact Colorado, its inhabitants and the story you experience. Will you be Colorado’s savior or its worst nightmare?

Wasteland 3 is a squad-based RPG from inXile entertainment, featuring challenging tactical turn-based combat and a deep, reactive story full of twists, turns, and brutal ethical decisions that will keep you hooked whether you’re a Wasteland veteran or new to the series. Create a squad of up to six Rangers and customize them with perks and abilities geared to your playstyle. You even get your own battle truck, which you can upgrade into a hardened war beast, bristling with weapons, to help mow down your enemies.

An Improvement Overall, Warts and All.

I have only played Wasteland 2 prior to this so be forewarned. Wasteland 3 has improved combat, graphics and music than its prequel. Story is different and a matter of personal opinion but I'd say it is no worse and in terms of reactivity and having decisions matter it suprasses 2 hands down. There are some problems with the game, bugs are definitely preset but however I see them less and less as patches are rolled out so if you were on the fence before I would say now is a good time to try. Beware it does have one feature regression from Wasteland 2 that does not look like it is going to get resolved, Inventory Sorting. Maybe it's and oversite of the accessability team but inventory management is notably worse than the previous game, the lack of a sorting feature hinders this game in ways that were not present in 2. I find myself having to go line by line in my inventory to find things that do not have dedicated categories like trinkets (Badly Needed!). With all that said the fact that inventory mangement is the only thing that feels like a regression and all other areas are improved speaks as testament to this game. The Desert Rangers are served well as their story continues through Colorado, warts and all.

More Wasteland

I played all of the Wasteland and Fallout games, and helped fund this game. I'm not disappointed. I've played about 47 hours, and I am not yet near the end. In the 47 hours I've had one CTD and a few minor bugs. I would rate the single-player stability on my system as very good. Loading times have been under 20 seconds; I haven't experienced the very long times of which others have complained. Updates seem to have improved performance and allow the camera to zoom out a little further. On release, the camera was similar to the early days of Wasteland 2 where I was admiring the hairs on the heads of my characters while some unseen enemy was shooting them from 20 feet away. The structure of the missions resembles Wasteland 2. If you liked Wasteland 2, you should also like this game. This game involves a LOT of decisions, inviting experimentation and adding replay value. Most missions can be accomplished in multiple ways, and not all need to involve dispensing great gobs of death (though feel free). I'm already thinking of another play-through with a different approach. Generally, this game doesn't sit clearly in the good vs. evil camp, and many decisions will leave you thinking about your own morality and choices between shades of gray. The weird-o-meter of this game sits closer to the original Wasteland than Wasteland 2. Expect lots of humor and odd characters. Be warned, it is as politically correct as Monty Python. In the end, the bottom line for me has to be: Is the game fun? Yes, yes it is. I have to tear myself away late each night. I find myself thinking of the game when I'm not playing. I will play it again, and likely fund the next in the series.

Very fun game!

First, on technical issues, it's slow to load, but otherwise has run without a single crash. There are some minor issues on the stats (int doesn't give a boost for every level, just the first one that you leveled it up), and some issues with objects and inventory. Nothing game breaking, but be aware that the game is definitely going to be patched from here. As for the game play, I've really enjoyed it! The soundtrack is clever (WKRP as a country ballad??), the dialog is funny and snappy, and the descriptions and weapons are firmly tongue in cheek. The overall effect is more like playing a table top RPG with a fun and friendly DM than immersive reality. Combat is tile based, but with some welcome help (like before you move, you can see how your new position will affect your hit chance). Combat is snappy, but with minor hiccups that will likely be ironed out in the first big patch. If you like the genre (or specifically the franchise), jump in - you'll enjoy it! If you're on the fence or a wasteland newbie, perhaps hold off for the more refined (and cheaper) version that will undoubtedly be out in a few months.

The Apocalypse done Amazing.

I've put 60 hours into the game so far, and it's been an amazing ride. The atmosphere, humour, dark secrets and awesome combat just make me need to keep playing it....it's so well written and the choices ACTUALLY matter; a rarity in a new RPG in 2020!! 10/10, despite many bugs, once those are squashed, GOTY material.
