Could be good
but my Save got bugged 25h in the game, and I have no intention to play all that again. Even then, the game has a solid Foundation but is held back with teadious gameplay, very slow pacing and some performance issues that I got never rid off.

It is possible to get stuck in game. Complete waste of time. https://steamcommunity.com/app/427290/discussions/0/1743355067126700039/ I can't believe this bug isn't fixed since January.

A mixed bag
It has the worst load times I've ever seen. When entering a new area or reloading after death, it can take 2 minutes or more. The combat ranges from tedious to unbelievably frustrating, and is at no point fun. Generally, enemies are only ever difficult because they are absurd damage sponges, not because they are cunning or clever. For some reason, most human enemies are more resilient than you, despite being a vampire, which means your supernatural condition only serves to drive the game's drama. And the game's drama is actually rather good, so it's unfortunate it's so badly hampered by the mechanics. NPCs are plentiful and well-realized, it's genuinely interesting talking to them and untangling their backstories. I appreciate the consequences of your choices (even though I sometimes felt I didn't have enough information to make an informed choice) and the temptation to gain EXP by devouring citizens. Honestly I would have preferred if they cut the combat completely, and focused solely on quests and characters. To preserve the usefulness of drinking blood, they could have instead used a system of skills and skill checks. Unfortunately with the combat being a chore, and the price of failure so high (because of the insane load times), my will to push forward is challenged. Forget about replaying to experiment with the choices.

Excellent and underrated
I really don't understand why people have such mediocre rating for this game. Is this because mortals tend to follow trends? Or are they simply blind enough to undermine such great piece of work? Dontnod Entertainment, developer of Life Is Strange, is famous for their storytelling. Therefore, this game is truely an excellent story. If imagined as a TV series, this would be an engaging story with a few rich characters plus dozens of lesser ones. It's a mixture of mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy, woth at least 8.0 on IMDb. On gameplay, this game has quite a few innovation. It gives me a feeling of an early stage of Assassin's Creed + Middle-earth + Dark Souls. Combat is definitely not as bad as people tend to critisize, has a stamina-management style like Dark Souls. NPCs must be protected in order to keep living and giving quests, like Middle-earth's nemesis system. Cinematics are like Assassin's Creed, straightforward storytelling with limited player intervention. Choices made during major plot points probably does not affect that much, and content aside from Main story isn't that rich. But this could be one good start of another excellent franchise. I hope Dontnod will keep on with the good work.
