While taking a break from playing a tabletop RPG, Daniel, an average guy from modern times, is transported to Harnakon’s Castle. Thinking that he is suffering from a hallucination, he decides that he is going to run the adventure for as long as the illusion lasts. As he explores the castle, fights the monsters within, and even casts potent magical spells, Daniel comes to realize that not everything is as it seems.

Unepic heroically combines open-world platforming gameplay with the intricacy and challenge of the RPG. Tweak Daniel’s skills to your heart’s content. Fight a bewildering variety of monsters, from the lowly goblin to the gigantic dragon, with over 100 different weapons. Should be 1 star

The title explains it all. A constant grind of repeating the same areas over and over because of the games version of difficulty is the equivalent of walking into an unlit room and getting shot if you go forward or right, but left was okay.. too bad you chose left your third try. Spoiler alert.. This is where I learned to hate the game more than I already did at that point. About 2/3 of the way through you fight a boss which is a floating eye. You have to run to the sides of the screen, climb a ladder, zip line down and strike him while falling about 50 times. Not too bad compared to the rest of the game. Oh yeah, there is also the part where it makes you use every potion you have(which took 2/3s of the game to collect and you will die while it empties 30 potions on the ground) so you restarted and drop all your potions on the ground and go back again. Oh yay it adds silence and confusion(which is backwards L/R, but with a 1 second delay after it fades to F with you). So you get him down to 1/4 health and... oh the boss Fu(%in& teleports you out of the fight with one of your own items so you get to restart and try it again. It's not hard, its just stupid unforeseeable events, and that's how the whole game is. Oh you got in the water.. well now you have leeches that you have to go in your inventory and click each off.. Oh a bat hit you, go in your inventory and click that off. Oh that bird hit you, now kill them all because one of them stole your ring. Loved it until I played it and now I'd rather try to shove a car up my @$$ before ever booting it up again. @Devs: nice direction, but FU

I underestimated it

I picked up Unepic last week after solid 200 hours in The Witcher III + expansions (late starter). I wanted to have a break between Wild Hunt's new game plus - so for at least a year I am playing games from my library. Unepic drew me closer with its premise: a guy lands in a castle God knows how, names an evil spirit Zeratul, greets others by saying "En Taro Adun", references other games, events etc. I had medium expectations, expected to find copper, and I found gold. I am approx. 75% into the game, and I enjoy its challenges, the enemies, and quests make you think about their solution. For a low price you'll get at least 30-40 hours of enjoyment. Some critique may be directed at the inventory, which takes time getting used to, and is a cluster of things you need to check out with cursor/mouse before you know what it is (sometimes I was looking for a thing for 1-2 minutes before I finally found it. So, "no ragrets" for me, and I am off to explore the catacombs.

This was a fun game until . . .

This was a fun game with minor problems, but I was having fun playing a mage. And then I got to the Neuron boss (4th boss) There are two general ways to suck the fun out of a game: (1) Make it so hard that it's actual work to play it or (2) remove the player's choices. Unepic goes all in on (2) with the Neuron boss: You HAVE to play it as a melee character. Want to play as a mage or ranged? Too bad. You can only attack one way - by sliding along a rope and then attacking at a certain point. Want to play differently? Too bad. After a while Neuron curses you so your left and right controls become swapped, and he does it over and over and over and over and over. Want to maneuver your character the way you want? Too bad. After a half hour of this, I wasn't having fun anymore and uninstalled the game. While I definitely got my money's worth for the hours played, I didn't get to play to the end and so would not recommend on that basis. Note: There are those who would say that the boss is beatable with enough time and practice, and they're absolutely right. I'm not saying he's unbeatable. I'm saying he makes the game not FUN.

Not a bad game.

I enjoyed the game. It's a fun side-scrolling dungeon adventure game. I didn't mind the humor that some people thought was childish or annoying. You get to customize how you level up your player and what items you use for combat. What I didn't like about it is the challenges, as I thought most of them are too difficult to do and so you are left out of getting special more powerful items. And after a few times of trying find myself frustrated and bored with it. Thankfully they are not required to finish the game. It only has moderate to low re-play value. As the only thing that changes is how you level up your player and what items you use.

College humour & weak mechanics

Do you like repetitive jokes about defecation, procreation and bodily fluids and gases? If so, UnEpic is certainly a game for you. Filled to the brim with unfunny cliches and ripping off all possible franchises, it combines an irritating and unlikable protagonist, a boring plot, and tiring grindfest into a game that has, despite its flaws, some merit in playability. The graphics are weak and unconvincing (low quality sprites and textures, some 2.5D effects), the music is surprisingly good, the controls and steering are arguably horrible for a platform game (lack of air control, lag on attacks, absurd pain reactions), and the overall feeling is one of tiredness, repetitiveness and boredom. Still, if you get if for less than $2 (as I did), you will probably spend a dozen or so hours to complete the game (as I did, again)... frankly, I guess that some people can probably enjoy this game, though, if the love the "I farted!" jokes enough. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
