Still a solid FPS experience!
I'm a PC gamer these days but I kept my old N64 just so I could still play Goldeneye and this game once in a while. It's one of the most satisfying FPS experiences I've had to date. Solid collision detection and creature animations, along with spectacular kill shots, that are good and gratifyingly gruesome even by today's standards. The level design is still beautiful with a great ebb and flow of intensity. I still get little jumpscares from this game. On it's hardest level Turok 2 is quite tough for an average gamer like me, with gluts of ammo turning into nothing and enemies that lumber about making headshots hard, and the fallback weapons are just a bow or claw, with arrows being collectible from where they land. It all gives a more desperate but engrossing shooter experience. It's definitely best played at the hard level, and for an even harder game play with a controller instead. A headshot will still take most enemies down but bodyshots are far less effective as you ramp the difficulty up. Of course you take more damage as well. The story and collection of gems is very typical Turok, and the objectives are similar throughout the game, so this is more about enjoying the battle along the way. But it's still one of my favourite battles of all time. This game deserves the attention of any gamer, and would be a solid 5 stars if not for the jittery frame rate I get on my i5/290X. This game should be running over 60fps, so i hope there is a planned fix coming up for it.
