TOWER 57 IN A NUTSHELL

In a dystopian, dieselpunk world, where Megatowers are the only enclaves of civilization, a group of extraordinary individuals is sent to infiltrate the reclusive Tower 57. Their skills, clips' capacity & the ability to cooperate will decide on their fate. Tower 57 is a TOP-DOWN TWIN STICK SHOOTER with 16-bit inspired pixel art, destructible environments and heavy focus on CO-OP. It is also a modern take on what made AMIGA games so great back in the days.

MEDIA ABOUT TOWER 57

"(...) gorgeous artwork, action-packed gameplay and a seriously cool vibe."
- Hardcore Gamer

" 'Okay, so now you have to go over there and buy new legs,' the producer told me. Sold. I'm on board with this. Sometimes, it's the little things. (...) Tower 57 could be the next great indie co-op game."
- WorthPlaying

"Tower 57 just wants to be a fun and crazy shooter for players, providing chaos and mayhem and crazy characters like Abe Lincoln with cyborg legs, and what’s a bullet hell shoot-em-up without a cyborg Abraham Lincoln?"
- PlayStation LifeStyle

"(...) one of my most eagerly awaited games and a Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight success."
- IndieRetroNews

FEATURES:

FAST-PACED ARCADE GAMEPLAY

There is no school like the old school. Shoot everything that moves and don’t get killed in the process. Tower 57 offers complex situations arising from simple systems interacting with each other - and it does it the hard way. Number of lives is scarce, respawns limited and difficulty skyrockets when you least expect it.

TOOLS OF DESTRUCTION

Choose from a roster of six particular characters with different skillsets, number of upgradable weapons and gadgets. And if you happen to lose an arm or leg during your mission - you can always replace it with a new, better one! Master these combos and you will never get bored on your way to the top of the Tower 57.

COOPERATION

Mayhem tastes the best when it is shared. Tower 57's main campaign is designed for both, single player & local/online CO-OP. Flank your enemies, bait them into an ambush, leverage co-op specific weapons, or combine your regular weapons for increased firepower and new effects!

DIESELPUNK WORLD

Find your way through a maze of floors connected by elevators, a central hub filled with shops and terminals, and a multitude of secret walls and uncharted passageways leading to forgotten parts of the tower. Times of randomly generated levels are gone - everything in Tower 57 is carefully designed and pixel-crafted with the highest attention to detail.

DESTRUCTIBLE ENVIRONMENTS

Smash them, crash them and destroy everything. Reload. Repeat. Because everyone likes when things go BOOM. Everything - from debris and shell casings to bloody footprints - will mark your destructive trail through the Tower.

ADVERSARIES

Each enemy features its own distinct spawning mechanism, movement & attack patterns, as well as some weaknesses. And you'd better learn those vulnerabilities if you don't want to end up dead very quick.

Fun and gorgeous, but a bit hard.

I don't wanna sound like a pansy, but it's a bit hard because, usually, you need two players which would significantly help gameplay. However, I'm a bit of a loner. Buy a copy with a friend first and foremost!

Unusually difficult and punishing

Tower 57 isn't a terrible game, but it has a lot of faults. The basic game design is sound, but the extreme difficulty (even on easy) often feels unfair and very unforgiving. There are also plenty of in-game bugs, such as your character's special ability firing without your input. This did come in handy once, but most of the time it's an annoyance because it uses it up when you'd probably rather save. Add in that ammo and health packs are used immediately (even if you have full health or ammo) and only save points are used, and you have a game that almost seems like it strives to be difficult over fun. I know some people will love the idea of a game that's hard and punishing, and that's fine; however, if you're on easy, you don't expect it to be as difficult as many other games' hard modes. So what's good about Tower 57? Well, it's a lot of fun in co-op (both online and local) so long as you expect an extreme challenge. Tower 57 also offers numerous characters to play — three male and three female — each with their own weapons, tools, and special abilities. An interesting game dynamic is the ability to replace and upgrade body parts, each doing something different. You'll need that too, as certain enemies can tear off limbs, and even the tutorial goes so far as to force it on you. All in all, Tower 57 is a decent co-op title, but I'd only recommend getting it while on sale, and I'd suggest staying away if you're planning on playing single player. Something else to note is that Tower 57 is truly DRM-free, so you don't need Galaxy to play online co-op. I have no idea if the GOG version of Tower 57 plays nice with the Steam version, but I imagine it probably would. You might want to check the Steam boards for that; unfortunately, the boards for this game are sparsely population on GOG, so you're not likely to receive an answer.

Find General Steele

The shooting sections are fun, the dialogue is well written. Where I pass is finding a person in a large top down map with multiple floors with one floor standing on top of the given marker where he should be (but isn't there and the other floor you're unable to get to him either). I genuinely despise searching for 20+ minutes to come to no conclusion on how to solve or find something in a game.

Great ingredients but a bit annoying

This game has the ingredients to be a fun action-packed arcade shooter but some annoying levels kill the experience. Repetitive enemies & annoying levels that can feel more like a tedious puzzle than a fun shooter. I did not play that very long so perhaps further down the road it gets more interesting, but the game did not feel like I wanted to invest a whole lot of time into it. Co-op might be a thing but most of us don't play with others unless online (which is, very unfortunately, not present).
