Description
When Lara was only 16, she was tutored in archaeology by Professor Werner Von Croy, a world-famous archaeologist. Skip forward now, to find Lara in Egypt, minding her own business until a pool of quicksand pulls her underground, deep into an ancient tomb. Here she unwittingly releases the evil god Set, and for the rest of the game her ultimate aim is to recapture him and return him to his prison. Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation follows her quest through 43 levels, all set in the same underground world, so the story moves as seamlessly and effortlessly as the famous Tomb Raider herself.
In Tomb Raider Chronicles, Lara is still missing in Egypt and there is no word about her whereabouts. Fearing the worst, her closest friends arrange a service in her honor and to share their insights about some of Lara’s more mysterious exploits. Tomb Raider Chronicles offers new insights into the past adventures of Lara Croft along with a host of new weapons such as the grappling hook gun and a sniper rifle. If you feel creative and want to make your own adventures, the official Tomb Raider Level Editor is included with the game.
Includes Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Tomb Raider Chronicles.
Utilize new moves to overcome obstacles: walk along tightropes, swing across parallel bars, and stealthily attack your enemies with silent hand-to-hand combat takedowns.
Explore tombs as a teenage Lara Croft discovering her roots as an adventurer.
Highly interactive environments: light torches, swing from ropes, and kick down doors.
Both games are awesome and still great today! Thank you that the GOG version includes German as well.
I have a request for GOG: In the game library, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation shows a picture of Tomb Raider 3. This bothers me, because it's a picture of the wrong game. Please correct this by uploading a picture from The Last Revelation.
I have played a LOT of the the Tomb Raider games, but lost interest a little over the years. The original Tomb Raider is still one of my favorites for its early 3D design and focus on exploration. I still have a few to play, but I decided to write a short review of Tomb Raider 4 and 5.
Having finished Tomb Raider The Last Revelation (TR4) a while ago and just recently finished Tomb Raider Chronicles (TR5), I have to admit, I enjoyed Chronicles much better. I really did not like the open level nature of TM4 and wondered around endlessly looking for some small lock the game gives almost no clues about. I actually liked the more linear level design in TM5, which to me felt more like the classic Tomb Raider. I really liked the chapter structure of TM5 as well, since no stage felt too long and it gives you a nice variety of locations and gameplay
It is odd that people think TR4 was more exploration focused with less combat. I will say TR4 is much longer, but comparing the first 10 or so levels between the two games Chronicles has less combat. The 3rd chapter in Chronicles does not even give you a weapon. I just found TR5 to be less focused on combat than TR4.
Neither game is perfect. The final level in Chronicles is a bit too glitchy for me; enemies getting stuck in places or not taking any damage, certain doors not opening when they should, etc. TM4 was much more stable and it had a much better story.
My personal view would be to play the original Tomb Raider and its sequel and skip Tomb Raider 3, 4, and 5. If you like the old school stiff controls, then go ahead and play them all. If you just want to see great early 3D design, just stick to the early ones. The newer Tomb Raiders were fun, but not great.
Now I am off to start Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness which I have heard nothing but how good it controls...LOL
-Long time Tomb Raider fan
What I always loved about Tomb Raider was the ability to save the game at ANY point. I never finished the Tomb Raider Anniversary version because I became so irritated by getting killed and having to start a particular sequence all over again! The Last Revelation is like the old versions. I don't know how I ever missed this version.
Last Revelation is a very cool addition to the original three games. It feels a lot more like the second part, while adding cool new features. It was really fun to play through this. But it has some flaws worth mentioning. The whole game is set in Egypt and you can argue that the change of sceneries was a huge part of TRs DNA, which got rid of. In my opinion the gun arsenal is rather boring and i wish they expanded on it. There were some minor level design flaws, where you were just left alone without clues what tf to do (even in TR measurements). The finale was disappointing, no real boss fight like in the first three games. All in all I would give it 4.0 Stars.
Chronicles is clearly a decline for the series. While it brings back the different scenarios the game is really short in comparison to the first four games. As it is a collection of Laras adventures in the past the 4 different levels are not connected and you don't carry your items over to each new level. In the third level there is even no gun play. In the final part there is no gun play for a big part of it. (you can argue wether this is good or bad but for me it just feels not complete without using guns.) They really put a lot of cutscenes in and i truly wonder if thats what most recources went into as there was so few of a real TR game in it. The game design was really awful in some parts as it was just trial and error a few dozen times mostly in the last of the 4 scenarios. All that while suffering under the most annoying savegame bugs. I only can give 3.5 Stars.
