Oh, back when Rainbow Six was awesome. Before 3 came out. :P
Ugh, I played the frak out of this classic. I loved this one and Rogue Spear. They both just were so difficult it would scare the crap out of me whenever I'd round a corner into an enemy I wasn't expecting because it would take a realistic amount of shots to get killed. You get a shot or two in you and you're dead. You could fully plan out your movements and actions or just set a single point and wing it. If you got used to planning your teams you could easily coordinate attacks on areas and sweep in and save the day. It's challenging and rough but it's incredibly rewarding when you do it all successfully and don't lose anyone. Unlike many players I'm sure, I'd always make sure I NEVER lose anyone on any of my teams, haha. Which made it pretty rough. The game is very sim based and works more realistically than other shooters but this works well for this game. It was tough and fun as well as memorable. This is a game that sadly after Rogue Spear was changed to the less realistic Rainbow Six 3 and it's sequels. I think the series was BEST in the first two games and their expansions. Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear are both pretty hard but if you LOVE that feeling of accomplishment when you FINALLY get the perfect run through a level, THIS is the game for you. It's about as perfect as it gets. However, those with widescreen monitors make note, there are NO widescreen resolutions unless GOG included them here. I personally still have my disc of the game and just play from that but if GOG added the new widescreen resolutions then there should be no problem. Rogue Spear supported widescreen but this first game sadly did not. During my personal search for a fix, I only found crap for RS: Vegas. In fact if anyone out there reading this knows of a widescreen fix for the first R Six PLEASE let me know. Haha. Either way, widescreen support or not, this game SHOULD be played. It is great and worth your time. It's certainly taken plenty of mine over the years. ^_^
