Thronebreaker is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher that combines narrative-driven exploration with unique puzzles and card battle mechanics.
Crafted by the developers responsible for some of the most iconic moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game spins a truly regal tale of Meve, a war-veteran and queen of two Northern Realms — Lyria and Rivia. Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.

The storytelling is really good. Some of the gwent card game puzzles are tough to solve. Sometimes you need to calculate up to 8-10 cards in advance, while also managing the hero power, the order abilities, targetfire, placing things on the right row etc (some puzzles went up to 15+ choices that need to be sequenced perfectly). One minor sequencing mistake and you can't complete the cardpuzzle. It can be frustrating to some players but i like that challenge.
Besides that i like the idea of building your own military camp, while also training your "units" which you can place into your deck. It is a cool idea. The music of the game is nice and the artwork is a bit cartoony, but i like it.
Why not 5 stars?
The normal gwent battles themselves are not challenging at al. If you know what you are doing you will win all 3 or 1 round battles of the first 2 maps without ever comming close to losing. Even on the hardest settings it is a giant walkover. But i do believe that the fact that i am used to multiplayer gwent makes the ai-battles a lot easier. Things like: ORDER: summon a blitz unit from your deck is just to OP if you can even play multiple cards in your deck that can also reset all charges etc. It gets to the point of summoning so many units that the entire bord is filled (with 18 units) after playing 6 cards or something like that. Add area of effect boosts to your deck and you get sick boosts as well. The battles are just to easy.
These days story games rarely interest me whatsoever however, this was truly one of the most compelling games I have ever played, with an intriguing cast of characters in which I ended up caring for and (relatively) meaningful decisions -which in all fairness could have done more- combine this with fun creative puzzles which in many cases got me thinking for quite a while, and battles which are as epic as they can be in a card game you are given a truly great game. However there are a few other downsides, towards the end of the game, money and wood (the currency of Thronebreaker) become almost infinite meaning the games hard choices and not so hard due and that I think the hardest difficulty should reduce the player to bare scraps rather than an abundance of resources. Overall with its few downsides Thronebreaker is an exceptional game, all who enjoy RPGs, card games or just an interesting story should give this game a try.
Looks good, sounds great, surprisingly deep and atmospheric. I didn't have much hope for something made as "Gwent stories", but game made sure i will pre-order the next Witcher Tales.
1 Major issue with TB: it cant give you real battle challenge (at least if you have 300+ gwent hours) due to its abusable balance.
Challenge of puzzles varied from "omg do u think im dumb mate??" to "man, i really am dumb", wich makes it perfect at least by my tyaste.
They did it again! Meve is arguably more interesting and heroic than the White Wolf himself. Don't miss out on this extremely welldone tale! I honestly hope we see more of the Queen of Rivia and Lyria, her story is tearjerkingly awesome. Come for the Gwent, leave 30 hours later with an unshaven beard smelling like rotten apples, wanting to rexperience the whole quest once more.
If you love the witcher universe you can't miss this, even if you don't really love Gwent it's still recommended.
PRO
Amazing story/characters
Amazing soundtrack and art style
Gwent Puzzles are interesting and various
CON
Normal gwent battles are pretty easy (a patch to fix this is coming btw)
You will have to live with the harsh decisions you made during the story
