The Sinking City Remastered

Well, I had been thinking about purchasing this game and being a fan of the Sherlock Holmes series (which I got from Steam, prior to finding out about GOG) a fan of detective games, HP lovecraft and period pieces I figured I might enjoy this. I'm not saying it's bad-the graphics are nice, the atmosphere is good, the music was good; the gunplay sucks (but that isn't anything new with Frogwares games) but I just find it very boring and the navigating around the map can be annoying. From a technical standpoint: upon booting this game up, the first thing I noticed, was choppy video. I checked to see my drivers and everything was up-to-date and it was. I shut off the V-sync and the motion blur; which solved the problem. Why on Earth is motion blur even a thing? So, I'm playing it this afternoon and suddenly: it locks up midway through an animation and will not move. I can't exit out of the game, can't even bring up the task manager to force it down, so I soft-booted my pc instead. After this: I decided to apply for a refund. God bless GOG and their policy--they're far better than Steam. Is it a good game, is it a bad game? I can't honestly say. Maybe it's just me; maybe I'm getting too old for gaming

Love the writting and charecters, this is closest to lovecraft novels I experienced in video games. Gameplay has its lows -combat, overused same assets, not enough to do in open world city, crafting and skill points are meaningless in second half of the game - but the game loop is highly engaging - fights, detective work, exploration - I enjoyed every minut in this world and I know no other game that gave me similiar experience.

good detective thriller, although they try to make exploring interesting, the navigation/walking is weak. Should have more curated cases instad of random houses with loot and enemies

The atmoshpere is there, especially during the first hours when you discover the game. Then "the Soufflé collapses", as did my hopes, when I realised the game was a never ending sequence of round trips in a weirdly inhabited city. NPC are just there. In weird places. You visit the same places again and again (very few variations in the "homes" we can visit.) Monsters pop randomly. As do crafting materials. We don't have to solve mysteries, the hero being able to re-live scenes from the past (really practical when you are a detective). The game announces "detective gameplay". That's true: we get the boring stuff: going from A to B. Searching in archives using an horrible search system. Even using the map is a pain. It's fun for 5 minutes to manually place tags. Then it gets boring. And not being able to have all of them displayed at the same time is just another nail in the coffin. The game is boring, ergonomics are bad. Sherlock Holmes games are a better choice.
