Game Description:
The Sinking City is an adventure and investigation game set in an open world inspired by the universe of H.P. Lovecraft, the master of Horror. The half-submerged city of Oakmont is gripped by supernatural forces. You're a private investigator, and you have to uncover the truth of what has possessed the city… and the minds of its inhabitants.
Game Pillars:
An oppressive atmosphere and story inspired by the universe of H.P. Lovecraft.
A vast open world that can be explored on foot, by boat, in a diving suit…
High replay value thanks to an open investigation system: each case can be solved in a number of ways, with different possible endings depending on your actions.
An arsenal of weapons from the 1920s with which to take on nightmarish creatures.
Manage your mental health to untangle the truth behind the madness.
1. I own The Sinking City game on Epic Games store, is that version still not updated and not same as this one?
2. Is the only way to play "new" version with new DLCs is to buy again on GOG or Steam ?
Beat the game one time when it was released, would enjoy to replay it at least once.
1920s america with every single DEI historical revisionist addition you could imagine.
They completely brutalized what Lovecraft created and injected modern woke politics all over the game. Innsmouth refugees are the good guys? They are literally fish people and are the good guys. Combat is a bucket of ass too. Not very enjoyable at all. Even with a deep sale I would avoid this title at all costs.
It's a beta. So much potential but they just gave up halfway.
Every detectiving is "walk around till you trigger the memory then put in the right order". There's no challenge. They're obvious or you just force them.
They mention a barter system. You will do this once in the prologue. There is no shop system, only loot and quest rewards.
Side quests don't merge with the game itself. "Wow that's neat, I hope that comes up again later-" There'll be massive implications from dialogue and characters. None will ever come up again.
It's open-world but not in a meaningful way. Every house(bar infected loothouses) is bare until their quest line has been initiated. This killed it for me. You cannot find lore/initiate your own side quests. You must be spoonfed them via your noticeboard. It could've been linear and the result less obnoxious; the following would be less obvious too:
The game is buggy as hell. Enemies will hit you through walls from the street. Makes for some laughs. The city is procedurally generated and it SHOWS. So many spots are so weirdly copypasted into stuff that makes no sense. Windows in an apartment but only on one side of a wall, etc.
Skill system is meh. Hints say "sometimes running is best" but there are only two combat situations with monsters: "Infected" street where you can run through to your location. Or sealed buildings where you must kill all to progress. In this way, you're forced to fight or you waste ammo as the enemies respawn when you leave.
Underwater sections are awful. Just bad platforming.
Also throwing in the Ku Klux Klan and having your innsmouthers be an allegory for racism while having them committing the worst of crimes because spoilers is just stupid and lazy. I don't understand how you accidentally justify the racists while still portraying them as malicious idiots. Just leave out the KKK.
Ultimately fun if cheap but you'll get sick of it quickly. It's a shame because I was excited when the trailer dropped years ago.
