The Settlers® 2: Gold Edition

The game itself is great, but after playing for a few hours the mouse gets stuck. This issue has been known and widely reported since 2012, but for some reason GOG is ignoring it.

First time I saw this game on friend's computer and it was love at first sight! Game is very nicely playable mix of economics (much) and little combat (not so good made) but what I always anjoy most in that type of games is just watching how it all works. Animations ale well made and so nicely looking. graphic is drawn good so game doesn't look so old. Play it at least to watch how your settlers do their work...

Rock solid gameplay, decent graphics and a fantastic timesink! The replay value in Settlers 2 is just immense, being able to play this game again is just worth the 6 dollars!

Settlers 2. Where to begin.... Simple to learn, hard to master. Decide how to build your town, supply routes, army, navy.... everything. This is one of the very few games I still play many years after its release. It is that gripping. Or not. You can set your little settlers off, then go read a book, or watch a movie, and they'll still be tootling around on their own. At $9.99 it's worth thinking about. On sale, it's a "must buy" for anyone. The graphics aren't much to write home about, but it is well over 10 years old. The music, however, is simply an excellent fit for the game. Fully orchestral, sweeping, majestic. This game couldn't be better if it made you drinks.

The ultimate aim of the game in Settlers 2 is to get your people back home after being shipwrecked after a bad storm. To achieve your goal you will need to efficiently provide your people with all the resources they need to go about their daily work until they reach the gate that will bring them one step closer to home. Of course things are never that simple and as a result sooner or later you will have to fight, only strong leadership and gold will ensure victory! This is probably the only game from the DOS era I still regularly play and somehow it still has something that none of the newer settlers games have being able to capture. As well as this being a really addictive and fun game, the CD audio download is worth the asking price alone. Tip play it in your media player of choice and play the game with the midi turned off, sheer bliss!
