Complex, yet intuitive economics make this one of the most addictive games of all time
This was kinda my first real game alongside Baldurs Gate. I played so many hours settlers, can´t count that shit. It brought me so much fun, easily the best game in the series 10/5 stars
I gave a five-star rating for nostalgia purposes as well as because I feel this game deserves a five-star rating. As the title of my review states, GOG's initial DOSBox configuration files make the game look weird on my HD system. I have the original game and run it through a downloaded copy of DOSBox and the intro video fills my whole screen, as does the main menu—this makes the dated jpg/bmp backgrounds look better than GOG's settings do; this fit to screen that DOSBox does 'out of the box' is fantastic compared to GOG's custom settings, which make the game look more worse than it really should. I have taken the time to go through GOG's custom DOSBox configuration files and alter them slightly to get that original look and feel that I get from running DOSBox, mounting my C: and D:, and then running the game that way.
My main complaint with this GOG version is mostly just an aesthetic thing. Otherwise, this game is one of the greatest classics anyone could ever own!
First time I saw this game on friend's computer and it was love at first sight!
Game is very nicely playable mix of economics (much) and little combat (not so good made) but what I always anjoy most in that type of games is just watching how it all works.
Animations ale well made and so nicely looking. graphic is drawn good so game doesn't look so old.
Play it at least to watch how your settlers do their work...
