One of the best if not the best at all in it's category. It starts as an easy going piece but atmosphere is slowly thickening as you play and as the game fluidly draggs you inside it's world you find yourself being flamberghasted by a marvellous experience and superior climax.
The Longest Journey is one of the best adventures i've ever played. Epic Story, interesting charakters and nice graphics. I would like to see the german version...
I recently learned of this series and decided to buy all and play all -- TLJ, Dreamfall: TLJ and Dreamfall Chapters.
Playing through this game was painful. Some of the puzzles are very difficult but, most of all, the going is slow because your character is so damn slow to walk from area to area. You will click on the exit to the screen, and then press "ESC" to make her run... only to wait 15 seconds while she runs across the screen. Some of the fetch quests required going from many areas and back again, only to have to sit and wait minutes at a time while she navigated the screen. UGH! This is also an old game, don't forget to save. I forgot to save once and lost 2 hours of progress when the game crashed at the end of a chapter.
This game may have been phenomenal when it came out but it is very dated today. Blocky, ugly graphics that have not stood up as well as even old Sierra games. The only thing this has going for it is the story and, possibly, nostalgic value if you played this back in the day. Had I known this, I probably would have skipped this entry and just read a plot synopsis before starting Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
I love this game. 5 hours in so far, in chapter 3. Great music, great voice acting, really fun puzzles, and of course amazing story telling. The game makes it so that you want to hear all the dialogue everyone has. Only 4/5 because it has crashed 3 times so far, not too big a deal, just be sure to save often.
Over the years, I have played TLJ1 again and again and I must say it will forever remain number one for me.
The story, the symbolism, the hints you get in the most unexpected places, the overall atmosphere, the deeper meanings, it is fabulous!
Fully recommend it.
