Only by questioning an intertwined community of colourful characters, cleverly exploiting the time loop, and making difficult moral choices can you hope to solve this epic mystery. The Forgotten City may have evolved from a mod for an action RPG, but like the mod, this game is in a totally different genre. It’s a mystery adventure game, developed by a core team of three people. If you don’t go into this expecting a Triple-A action RPG, you’ll have a much better time!
I was sold on the preview pictures alone. I was really interested in roaming this Ancient City. What I got was not only that, but also a really amazing plot! I literally sat down and played this after lunch and late into the night. Every character got me curious and I just had to know what was going on. I'm being vague because going into this blind is absolutely worth it. I loved this game and I've been bugging my friends to buy it. Seriously if you like trying to solve a mystery and good writing. Buy this!
As someone that loves classical history and mysteries, this game hit several marks with me. I was engaged with the story and some of the characters and the reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is that, for me, the illusion was broken when my interactions with characters that should have a comment for actions I just took with other characters, doesn't seem to affect them. It felt old-school point-click adventures in that unless the precise order of actions was taken for that particular interaction/solution was taken, the characters didn't react reasonably.
Tech-wise I didn't had any issues, playing with headphones does help with ambience for all the whispering in the game.
I loved this game so much! It took me 10 hours to finish it and I enjoyed every minute of it.
The atmosphere is great. The writing, the characters, the stories and twists are really good. I enjoyed the music. The gating is very clever. Ifg you are into rogue-lite crime adventures this is the game for you!
To find some downsides: the shooter gameplay is a bit clunky and some sound effects could be better. I didn't get most archivements due to some error.
I'm now busy printing my 3D statue for my desk and maybe I'll try endings 1-3 later. But for now I'm happy for the story and the immersion into that fantastic world.
