Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
A point & click game with great atmosphere. Still looks good for its release date and has nice puzzles. Just remember to save often since you can die in some places.
There are 2 problems: a couple of times you ask some character to do something and you need to wait some time until they do it. In real time. You'll need to go aimlessly from location to location, returning periodically to ask them "are you done yet?" or leave the game running and go make yourself a coffee (about 10 min should be enough). The second thing is dead end. Be sure to save game before you'll try to open door to leave a mine.

I saw the Black Black Mirror Special Edition in the window of a social welfare shop, always worth a look for forgotten items, and purchased it together with Black Mirror 2.
Back at home I revived an old Sempron Book with a fresh XP installation, hooked it up to my beamer and set it to 800x600 with a 2:1 soundbar.
The Special Edition DVD contains all kind of artwork, an interview with the developers and even a walkthrough, doesnt have any DRM and runs without the disk mounted.
Though I played it before I was blown away from the beginning, I just mention the word addiction. It took a week to finish the game despite of starting work at 8 in the morning.
No mentionable flares, no complaints about usage, gameplay, plot or puzzles.
I have to give 5 stars because the game did what it has to do, drive me on, I have to finish this game and it was worth the time.
Black Mirror 2 is another issue, its already running under the same conditions.
The story in this game is quite intriguing. Old manor, dark family mystery, hints of eldritch horror, the works; but ultimately the game itself is neither challenging nor well-designed. It is really easy to solflock yourself in various parts of the game such as in the mines.
Necessary Spoiler: There is a 'puzzle' with a padlock that needs to be shot off to progress. You must inspect the padlock before firing the shot or else you will miss the shot and waste a bullet, a bullet that you need to kill a random wolf that is on the other side of the gate. If you shoot off the padlock after using your only two bullets and save the game and only have one save file as I did, you are now softlocked and cannot beat the game without starting all over. I don't care how old this game is, that is really just poor design, and the puzzle is not really a puzzle, because you learn nothing from it and cannot rectify your mistake if you choose to save the game which is a fairly standard thing to do, especially when cheap deaths are common in earlier sections of the game.
In addition to this particularly egregious example, the game is just devoid of any real challenge. Items that you can use together or on other objects are highlighted when you move the object over them, making thinking an uneccessary task for any of the 'puzzles'. There are no puzzles in this game, just random obstacles that you will solve by just placing objects over other objects. The only barrier in this game is time and how much of it you are willing to spend clicking on random things until something happens.
It is a shame that the actual game part of this game is so bad, as I found the story to be very interesting and was excited to delve into the mysteries of Black Mirror manor. If only as much attention was given to the puzzles as is given to the story. You are better off playing other adventure games.
This could be a 5-star game, but because of the terrible voice acting (English), I had to knock a star off. It's definitely worth picking up though, especially while it's on sale. It's got a good storyline with logical puzzles. I'm running it on Win 8.1 x64 with no problems in case anyone's curious.
