I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. Although it could do with a few more clues for the puzzles I still loved it. One tip though, save, save and save again or you'll end up replaying a long stretch of game when you die suddenly.
One of the best adventure games out there. Very underrated gem. It reminds me a lot of the amazing Broken Sword adventure games, except with a more horror setting. The whole trilogy is very well done. The story and the puzzles were very well done.
I bought this on a whim and i'm glad I did. Its an older point & click game and it has a lot of charm. The plot's about an ancient curse set on the Gordon familiy and Samual, the grandson, has come to solve it. It has a great soundtrack and really good visuals for the time. It took me about 10 hours or so to complete. But be warned, it's only easy at the first two chapters and gets hard from there. Some of the puzzles take quite a bit of time and some of the solutions to problems dont have easy answers. I had to resort to a walkthrough for a bit of the game, otherwise I never would have progressed. Also, I was un-aware that I could die, so I suggest saving a lot later in the game. I think if you like a rich, dark story and point & clicks, you'll enjoy this game!
... to finally bring myself to continue this game after I started it and played most of chapter 1. Fortunately I had forgotten how bad the guidance system was and how stupidly some of the game events were connected (you can only talk to Victoria about a painting after you compared two hair samples which habe absolutely nothing to do with that painting). Otherwise I probably would not have continued at all. But I did and I finished the game finally.
I played the game in English since it was set in England, even if I always had the feeling that I was listening to some english lessons for beginners ... the german voice actors are much better.
The main character is some sort of a-hole, bribes people, locks them in tombs, bosses them around. I never felt connected to him in any way.
The devs could never really decide what mouse button to use to use/examine something.
Also you can click that stupid nail all you want, until you noticed that your knife is to thick to override the contacts in the door bell. Only then you can pick up that nail.
Anyway ... at some point I finally reached the end ... what a disapointment. I don't mind the last sequence, but it feels that between using the keys and the end sequence there is a big chunk or story / cut scenes missing. Also it's never explained why Grampa made the big jump in the first place (that's the event which starts the story).
The game does a good job waking hope for more to come. But no, there isn't.
There's a good English manor atmosphere.
You can only collect objects relevant to current puzzles and you can't leave an area until you complete puzzles. I like this concept so you don't waste time wandering aimlessly and you don't need to juggles with dozens of inventory items.
I found the use of left and right buttons confusing. The left button is fine for 99% of actions but some objects require a right-click.
Thing that annoyed me is that you occasionally need to wait until a character completes an action and this seems to take forever.
