Description
The Venturis Corporation wants their AI back. That's where you come in.

Tacoma is a narrative adventure set aboard a high-tech space station in the year 2088. As you go about your mission, you'll explore every detail of how the station's crew lived and worked, finding the clues that add up to a gripping story of trust, fear, and resolve in the face of disaster.

At the heart of Tacoma is the facility's digital surveillance system, which has captured 3D recordings of pivotal moments in the crew's life on the station. As you explore, echoes of these captured moments surround you. You'll use your ability to rewind, fast-forward, and move through the physical space of these complex, interwoven scenes to examine events from every angle, reconstructing the multi-layered narrative as you explore.

Tacoma is the next game from the creators of Gone Home, and carries on that tradition of detailed, immersive, and powerful storytelling, while pulling players deeper into the narrative than ever before.
  • A Richly Layered Story Experience: Six crewmembers lived and worked on space station Tacoma, forming relationships, experiencing love and loss, and facing crisis together. Discover not just what happened to these people, but what makes them who they are, through your role as an interactive investigator. The story is told through a series of fully voiced and animated interactive AR scenes, immersing you in the events on Tacoma.
  • A Groundbreaking Multi-Path Story System: In each section of the station, you are surrounded by digital representations of crewmembers following their own parallel story threads that diverge, recombine, and split off again. Rewind, fast-forward, and move through these scenes' chronologies as they swirl around you. Your interactive tools allow you to discover the tightly-knotted narrative from every angle, and in every detail.
  • A Deeply Interactive Gameworld: Explore Tacoma Station both physically and digitally. Unlock doors and drawers to find meaningful objects, notes, and physical artifacts, while simultaneously exploring extensive records of the crew's digital communications and personal thoughts. Every facet of the crew's experience on Tacoma is part of your investigation.
  • A Vision of the Future: Experience life in the year 2088. Discover a rich fictional universe that depicts humanity's expansion into low-Earth orbit and beyond. A deeply-imagined speculative vision of the near future from the award-winning story team behind Gone Home and BioShock 2: Minerva's Den.
  • A Compact Narrative Experience: Tacoma is estimated to take around 2 to 5 hours to complete. How deep you dig and how much detail you find is up to you. Tacoma is a non-combat, non-puzzle-focused game. The details of the story and gameworld are there for you to discover at your own pace.

Didnt Know What To Expect

Totally not my kinde of game, still I loved every bit of it. I went in to this one completly blind, and Im glad I did. I also played this game in Linux, Arch infact, The game ran smooth =). So.. without spoiling to mutch. Mia, is the main character you play. You are sent on a mission to exploring Tacoma, to find out what went down there. This is done by snooping around in the crews private cabins, there lockers, drawer, messeges and phone calls. This is no horror game, in fact Tacoma has no combat at all. The only "combat" I found was some punch bags at the gym I could use. And ye you can almost pick up and use anything. You are also able to use the stations recording system. It creates an algorithmist reality, that you can fast forward and rewind back to your own liking, and this is how the story is told. And I like this alot, if you miss something you can always rewind the story. You feel like a detectiv, and in a way I guess you are. I also feel a bit guilty for snooping in the crews personal life, there is more then meets the eye so to speak. The voice acting is superb, and the writing aswell. What I dont like about Tacoma is its short story, linear path, and the price. I also would like to know more about the crew, even if you get to know alot by the end, it still isnt enough. The first thing I wanted after completing this game was some sort of DLC or expansion. Maybe explore other ships in the future, and give us more freedom to explore along with it. I would wait to buy this, set it to your wishlist and pick it up for around 12 dollors. Its to expensiv for the time you get out of it and the experience along with it. And some argue its like a movie. But I havent payed over 6 dollors for a movie in ages, so I dont really buy that argument.

A good walking Sim

So this game was made by the people who made Gone Home. It's probably a bit better then gone home, or it was more interesting. Basically, a space station near the moon has suffered an accident and you've been sent in to retreieve any available data regarding what happened. The station had a holographic recording system so there are video/audio recordings all over the place to get a feel for the characters and what happened on the station. Essentially you're exploring and listening to audiologs, but it's reasonably wel done and it works well for it's 2 hour-ish length. If you don't mind walking sims/atmospheric storytelling type games, it might be worth a try for you, but it's certaintly not gonna be for everyone.

Good story and quality

I really enjoyed this game. You are arrives in the abandoned space station and then you get the story piece by piece from AR recording or just from objects around. This is like reading a book but different, because it provide you different tools to get the story. Some may not like the games like this (interactive movie or walking simulator), but the game has the quality, e.g. the script with a lot of details and a lot of minor things to look at (e.g. how do they grow tomatoes in space station or how the AR input control works, the architecture of space station, etc). It feels like a lot of efforts were put into making environment for player and it up to the person if this would resonate to him or her.

Underrated

Well-planned, detailed VR-like experience. True, there is no overall plotline to write home about, but you pick up bits and pieces as you perform your mission to a recently abandoned space station. Very modern, sort of a first-person space opera (is there such a thing?) Could have been longer, but GOG had it on sale (so who's complaining?) Female 1st person lead - I sometimes think this affects male reviewers - and there are times on the station where you will have to figure out how to move around without gravity. 5 stars for overall production.

Short SF novel.

Finished the game in 3h. Had fun, liked the story, sounds and voice acting. Loved little sci-fi quirks (like idea for interafaces, or recordings). Graphic is quite good. Level design and art is great: believable, natural, sometimes humorous. Sadly theres not much 'game' in here - its just short, nice story you 'consume' with WSAD and mouse.
