The fate of botkind rests in your hands—are you ready to lead your crew through treacherous waters?
Loved the first one and loving this second one even more. I was so afraid that the first would be the last and was so pleasantly surprised when the 2nd one was confirmed. There's really no other game like it mechanically, has a wonderfully charming world, music, art, the whole package.
Fantastic job and kudos to the developers. You have a day 1 buy from me next time too if we get another!
The missions are almost identical in how they play out, where you try to destroy bots and collect swag, usually before a timer gives out. It's an incredibly fun tactical game that really expands on the original game.
That all being said, the travel between locations is significantly different. Instead of jumping between star systems, you're piloting a sub that moves above and below water, and has some real-time combat when you come across enemy vessels.
The story is somewhat interesting, but mainly is just there to guide the gameplay along. Definitely a great game with enough extra capabilities that I may come back after I finish to try a harder run.
As expected, the art, sound, and story are great; full of heart.
This is a sequel to Heist, so the core gameplay is generally the same.
You're very strongly encourage to use all of your crew (instead of only your favorites) because they need to "rest" after boarding on a mission. There's also a "job" mechanic your crew can mix/match depending on the equipped weapon. Meaning your crew isn't "locked" to a specific class. New perks are unlocked after leveling up the class. Unlocked perks become available to "equip" when you switch classes. This becomes very important as you progress in the game. For example: a sniper that can attack after every enemy scrapped; can easily clear our the room.
Regarding the overworld, it's there's much more "game" to it this time. You control your submarine to locations of interest and shoot baddies and collect currency/items. It's not not as linear as the first game, and you can replay missions as many times as you want/need. Each success rewards you with "bounties" (currency) which you use to buy things after resting at a bar. The bigger the crew, the more missions you can complete and bounties you can collect in one "day". More bounties = higher tier rewards.
I didn't experience much grinding, but I can see the backtracking/pacing/etc. when compared to the first game. Though I wasn't detered because the game kept me engaged with new items/upgrades and story progression. There's also very little reason to replay missions unless you haven't completed it "perfect" (not hard in most cases).
In short, if you enjoyed the first Heist, then you'll enjoy this one; it's a very good sequel with a load of new things so it's not "more of the same".
Better than the first. Took all the good things from Heist 1, dropped the bad, and added more. Just get buy it, play it, and support the devs! Love this series!!
I played Steamworld heist one through several times, and always enjoyed it. This one improves on every aspect of the game, and it's exactly what i wanted in a sequel.
Bonus: Steam Powered Giraffe with a new album as the soundtrack matches perfectly.
