deemon328 summed this up pretty nicely and it was especially his review that made me give this a try. After playing through Starcom Nexus I can second everything he wrote!
It's a small little gem from (I presume) a small team. It's chill and fun. Sweet and relatively short. I can only recommend you give this a shot.
As a fair warning: This game is relatively short. To me personally this is no disadvantage. Quite the contrary actually. I've got a demanding daytime job and coming home from that to invest a few scarce hours chipping away at a 60+ hours block of game length just isn't that appealing to me. It would probably take me half a year to get through Baldur's Gate II these days. So I actually welcome games that are reasonably short. That way I have an actual chance seeing the end of it.
Second fair warning: Some of the side quests are rather obscure and it took me a bit of googling hints to get to the bottom of these. Game is still being improved though - at least, that's what I took from some of the forum entries on steam. So, there's a chance that later versions will give you a better chance figuring out the harder part of side quests.
The 2nd game is superior in almost every way, but if you couldn't get enough of the exploration and are in need of a new SciFi story this game is for you.
