STAR WARS™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga

Recently, an AoE2 commentator, renaissance22channel, has made some videos about this game, I suggest, if you have the game, or just want the game check out his channel and watch his videos. I personally have the game and play it on Voobly. You should too.

This was essentially a mod to Age of Kings back in a day when you could get away with releasing such a thing and fool people into thinking it was an original game. Actually this still happens. Quite a lot actually. But anyway, I am not here to talk about THOSE games. I am here to talk about Galactic Battlegrounds. Derivative as it may be, it's still fun as hell. It was fun then, and it's fun now. What makes it fun? Star Wars of course! Copious amounts of it. Some of it makes no sense. That's okay, don't let it stop you. There is something incredibly satisfying watching your little Jedi dude put the hurting on things twice his size. The campaign here is mostly fun and interesting for the most part. There are some dull moments, particularly the Tutorial, which is just horrific. The best bit? Star Wars music! The game is full of it! Listening to the Imperial March while churning out units offers an experience very few Star Wars games can match. It's a fantastic game, and a steal for this price.

The strategic gameplay is great - just like AoE. That's just it. I remember looking forward for ths, only to feel like I was playing a mod for Age of Empires II, but with a bunch of messy characters and clumsy animations. It looked and felt overal like a fan made mod. AoE was amazing, but this felt so unoriginal that just won't work for me. Maybe for more hardcore fans of Star Wars it will.

I played this so much as a kid, its Age of Empires 2 ... so its a good RTS, but it also has a good, fairly well polished Star Wars skin, I found the campaigns interesting and enjoyed the storylines. I liked the diversity of races ie, gungans don't get machines and can build underwater. Being AOE2 the campaign editor, random games etc all work well. This is simply a really "good old game" at (in my opinion) a very cheap price. The second I saw this was on GOG I picked it up, I lost my old discs and had been seriously considering getting a new set on ebay. Oh and the expansion..... its included here anyway its that's pretty solid as well, Episode 2 focused of course though.

Still a good Star Wars RTS game.
