Climb on, strap in, and experience the pure adrenaline-pumping excitement of the Podracing sequence from STAR WARS™: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
Take the controls as Anakin Skywalker, or any one of over 21 Podracers, and feel the full-force blast of two massive jet engines at simulated speeds of up to 600 mph. Rein in a turbine-driven chariot through 8 spectacular worlds. Negotiate through flaming methane lakes, Tusken Raider assaults, ant-gravity tunnels and much more in a pulse-punding, do-or-die fight to the finish where anyone will do anything to cross the finish line. How far will you go?
GOG I can't thank you enough for bringing this game back. One of my all time favorite racing games and also one of my favorite Star Wars games. I can't even imagine how many hours I put into this game on N64. I have searched for a pc version and none of them work on the newer versions of Windows.
Now I can play in 1080p. This was an insta buy for me and it runs perfectly on Windows 10 64bit.
It's still as fun and exciting as when I first played it on n64, almost two decades later. Xbox controller support + native 1080p is quite a treat, too.
Cons:
A pain to get it to start. You need to close any sort of overlay program (rivatuner and slack where causing mine to crash on startup) and there's a game-breaking bug where if you crash in an asteroid you spawn inside of it and have to restart the race.
i played this game growing up and was very upset when my hardcopy stopped working. so i searched and found it here. i'm pleased that it's just as much fun as i remember and am very happy it works on more modern hardware.
although, might just be my system, but the aspect ratio is off... the game is squished into the center and is very tiny. but other than that, it works like a dream.
also, word of warning, you might want to remap a couple of keys in the game settings. for some odd reason the thrust was the enter key which makes it hard to stear with the arrows. i mapped thrust to the spacebar and it's much easier to play. one hand for stearing and one hand for going fast.
the graphics, although so 90's/early 2000's, actuly look really good for a 20 something year old game. it looks just like it did when i was a kid.
i loved this game growing up and i love it just as much today. now if ya'll excuse me, i'm off to pod race!
F-Zero 64 you say? or maybe Wipeout? Words spoken by fools who have never experienced the thrills and spills of Star Wars: Episode I racer.
Starts easy at a moderate pace but soon turns into a high speed, edge of your seat, seat of your pants nightmare of twists, turns, jumps, drops, hazards, shortcuts and obstacles. In a world where nothing moves below 400mph you better believe its brown trousers time!
Wasted many an hour on this game as a young teen glad to see it back.
On the technical side I had no problems running this on Win10 it worked fine without making any changes to the resolution, although I am playing it through a TV that automatically changes to match its input. I expected it look bad on my 52" plasma as retro games often do but that's the beauty of a PC game over a console port, it looks really good better than I remember in fact. Get it, even if you are not a Star Wars fan you'll love it. It almost makes those god awful prequels worth while.....almost.
Really amazing Star Wars racing game! Really brings the expansion of the thrilling Podracing sport from Star Wars right to you. The feeling of racing at over 800 mph is a great experience. Even choosing your favorite pilots is great! Difficulty increases more and more as the game progresses, which is a great element for a game like this masterpiece. Overall, this game is awesome! Now THIS is Podracing!
