Probably my favourite PC game in the day

You gotta play this and you gotta play it with a joystick. This game slays. I got it running through Crossover some time ago because it didn’t run well on newer versions of Windows - so many hoops, so worth it. Now we can play it properly. This game is tough. Those delicious upgrades you bought for speed and acceleration? Well, say goodbye to how good those are if you’ve crashed 5 times in the last race. Buy loads of pit droids as they’ll repair damage incurred. You might start this and think it’s easy. Oh, just a few corners, give Sebulba the finger, shout “Cho skrunee dopat, sleemo” when you cross the line, and the announcer booms that you’ve set a new lap record. Oh, you poor, poor soul. Just wait till it steps up. These tracks get monsterous. That one on that strange cloud track where there are loads of different heights, and if you fall off the top one you’re practically immediately in 8th place? Yeah you’ll be cursing. You’ll wish you used that air brake. And you’ll wish you took it easy on the last lap. This is glorious. All your favourite racers from Episode I, who you see fleetingly and whose backstories aren’t explored at all. There’s Dug Something. Ben Quadengines. Eevee Eeveecott, who probably evolves when you give him a stone. This is tough. This is fun. This is podracing.

Set your resolution before you play, 5/5

Quick hint for everyone: run the video settings program before you run the game. I just pressed play right away after the game installed, and it'd crash on launch every time. Instead, set your in-game resolution to your desktop resolution, and then run the game. Presto, no more bugs! No more crashes! Just one of the best racing games ever made!

Now this is podracing!

"You must have Jedi reflexes if you can race pods." ― Qui-Gon Jinn Indeed, you must. And you'll feel like you have them, once you master this game. Star Wars: Episode I - Racer is not only an outstanding racing game in its own right, but it's also a great adaptation of the iconic, adrenaline-inducing sequence of an excellent movie. If you love speed, Star Wars, or simply the concept of podracing, then this is a must-buy. And it's finally compatible with modern Windows systems, so no workarounds needed.

This game is pretty Wizard!

Don't let the stigma of the prequels fool you. This is as solid of a racer as they come. I've logged endless hours of this on the N64 and now its back with a vengeance. Race as Ben Quadinaros and redeem yourself for that poor showing at Boonta Eve. Customize that BT310 quadra-podracer and wipe the floor with all those bantha poodoos at a cool 1200kph (no longer canon) Or play as Neva Kee, he has an inverted pod which is pretty cool. Just don't play as Anakin, that kid is super annoying (Spinning is not a cool trick) RIPD Denton mini-mall Anakin statue.
