I love Heroes 3, but...

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (which is clearly the most influential inspiration for Songs of Conquest) is one of my favorite games ever, but... It is clear that it is a game that was developed back in a time when respecting the player's time was not a focus of game design. Heroes 3 has great aesthetic, wonderful music, and an overall wonderful presentation. Even the gameplay is fun and deep to a level that new strategies are still being discovered to this day. Unfortunately though, to get the most out of it you have to invest lots of time into mastering the logistics of the game (moving troops across the map, scouting and visiting map sites), that most will not have the patience for. Even though modern HD mods for the game add many quality of life improvements to make managing this easier, the game was made for a different time. Enter Songs of Conquest. I suffer when I try to play Heroes 3. Songs of Conquest understands me, and does many things to make sure I am not as overwhelmed as I was in that game. To give just a few examples: - Units have maximum stack sizes, meaning that you don't have to stack every available soldier on your main. Other wielders get some troops as well. - You can build Rally points in settlements, allowing you to recruit units from other settlements without having to backtrack all the way there to pick them up, or dedicate a wielder to the task of delivering troops. The game gives you the tools to save time and avoid much of the busywork. On top of that, the singleplayer story is well written and fun to play through, the art nits a nice balance between stylish and retro, the animations are snappy and have good weight behind the movements, and the soundtrack is excellent. If you are like me, and could never fully get into Heroes 3 because of all the time consuming tasks, but felt like you would have otherwise liked the game, then Songs of Conquest is for you!

Love it

The devs seem to be making great decisions, from my research. The GOG version is supported just as the Steam one is. The mods are not related to Steam Workshop, someone was saying its mod.io or some third party, so u can play them on the GOG version. Im currently playing the campaign, and loving it. The art is amazing, the gameplay is very fun, its smooth. Some problems, the desert faction has some sterotypical things to it, but I havent yet played its campaign so I cannot be certain. The dialogue is good, but not amazing. The campaign seems short, but like I said, im still in the first chapter. It seems every chapter has 4 missions, there are 3 chapters with the 4th in dev.

An Addicting Turn-based Experience

I had the opportunity to play this game during its early access phase, and it was already quite polished. Now that it’s officially released, I must say I’m thoroughly impressed with the developers’ efforts. The continuous updates and improvements they have made are truly commendable. While some people compare this game to the Heroes of Might and Magic (HOMM) series, I believe it stands on its own, offering a unique and rewarding experience. It may not reach the same heights as the HOMM series, but it doesn’t need to. This game has its own charm and strengths. The music is fantastic, the art style is beautiful, and the gameplay is incredibly addictive. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this game and highly recommend it to others.

This is not HoM&M 3

Let's be honest: this game is clearly inspired by HoM&M 3, but it has a lot of fresh ideas and themes that makes it much more than a nostalgia bait. The general feeling is similar, but Songs of Conquest seems to be faster while still having a lot of strategic depth. This is a well designed game that do not have any major flaws. Sure, even after leaving early access some balancing is needed and there are only 4 factions, but each plays different and is enjoyable. In my opinion SoC are worth a full price. But if you want to play a Heroes 3 you should simply play Heroes 3

Nice indie similar to Heroes of M&M

It presents a good variety of units, builds, upgrades and spells. The system to recover mana points is also interresing. Very nice pixel art that rotates slightly with zoom. The plot is divided into 4 acts each with 4 chapters each act for a faction, so it is not very long although being on increasing difficulty it does not last that long either. Also you can create stories with the editor and share them with the community. Among the few shortcomings you have an unexceptional story with characters somewhat similar in certain characteristics but the lore and game world absolutely captivate. The other is the Italian translation which is not perfect but still allows anyone to enjoy the game and I thank the authors for the translation. For these first hours of play also I seem to notice a slight tactical advantage for factions with a more powerful late game and a bit like the last might and magic heroes (but much, much less than these) in the campaign it is easy to be outnumbered. But I reserve more hours of play for a more detailed judgment. For now it is absolutely promoted.
