You're on a path in the woods, and at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess.
You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world.
She will do everything in her power to stop you. She'll charm, and she'll lie, and she'll promise you the world, and if you let her, she'll kill you a dozen times over. You can't let that happen. Don't forget, the fate of the world rests on your shoulders.
You're not going to listen to him, are you? We're supposed to save princesses, not slay them...
Features
A princess. She's very bad and you have to get rid of her for all our sakes.
No, the Princess isn't a cosmic horror. She's just an ordinary human Princess, and you can definitely slay her as long as you put your mind to it.
Don't even think about trying to romance her. It won't end well for you.
Hopefully you won't die. But if you do, you'll die a lot. Be careful and stay focused on the task at hand!
Time loops No time loops. Don't be ridiculous. Time is a strictly linear concept and it certainly doesn't "loop," whatever that's supposed to mean.
A branching narrative where what you say and what you believe determines both your build and how the story unfolds.
A new roleplaying experience from the creators of Scarlet Hollow.
Fully voice-acted by the impeccable Jonathan Sims and Nichole Goodnight.

I've actually delved into the game a bit sceptical - I'm not a fan of horror games or gore.
Boy, the game is so much deeper. I'd describe as a philosophical and psychological piece of art. The music is outright amazing, the voice acting is fantastic. It made me question my own thoughts and processes, reflecting upon what I do and how I do it. I really feel that parts of me, my approach to the questions raised in the game have changed.
In short - if you can afford it and you like reflecting upon philosophical problems, get it. I don't regret it. Ideally don't watch any spoilers before - experience the story for yourself.
Lots of love, care, and creativity went into each part of this. There genuinely are no wrong choices in the narrative. The story simply reacts to what you give it. Every option is thought out and well-presented.
Great work, Black Tabby team!
i mostly play fps games. tf2, deep rock galactic, fallout. really enjoying my quake cd rn (what a game). i'm not closed off so to say, i really like deltarune and rimworld too, for example. but you get the idea - lots of action, all have some skill elements and win conditions.
i picked up slay the princess because it was showered with praise on tumblr, but the most similar thing to it i have ever played is Henry Stickmin, though Slay the Princess is more comparable (including in it's gameplay) to a book, if i'm honest. like the world's most comprehensive choose-your-own-adventure book. 'comprehensive' is a good way to describe it. for those who know, my first playthrough went like so: 1. fooled by The Beast, 2. fooled by 'wait forever' option, 3. immediately discover and speedrun the Oblivion ending. you won't understand that if you are spoiler-free, but here's what it means for you - i was ticked off after the game outsmarted me, but it actually had a route in place to cater to the sore loser in me. despite my horrific competitive edge, i left satisfied and impacted, and that is something special. the skill-oriented games i normally play naturally mould around your playstyle and decisions. but for a choose-own-adventure game? that must surely be a rarity at this level of depth and complexity. also bear in mind, i haven't played the new, free, update yet, which added 35% more guts to the game.
the writing is also something else, i get this tugging feeling in my chest on the main menu. i feel like a murderer. it's the same feeling i get when i think about something cruel i did as a child. this is a game that really tries to reach out to you (and i kinda spat in it's face, sorry).
the art is clearly excellent.
i will say, i wish we could explicitly TELL HER about the voices in our head, would've cleared things up between us. also why is The Smitten like that. i am not affiliated with that guy (¬_¬).
i'm at the character limit so just trust me, play the game :)
