Description

You're on a path in the woods, and at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess.

You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world.

She will do everything in her power to stop you. She'll charm, and she'll lie, and she'll promise you the world, and if you let her, she'll kill you a dozen times over. You can't let that happen. Don't forget, the fate of the world rests on your shoulders.

You're not going to listen to him, are you? We're supposed to save princesses, not slay them...

Features

  • A princess. She's very bad and you have to get rid of her for all our sakes.

  • No, the Princess isn't a cosmic horror. She's just an ordinary human Princess, and you can definitely slay her as long as you put your mind to it.

  • Don't even think about trying to romance her. It won't end well for you.

  • Hopefully you won't die. But if you do, you'll die a lot. Be careful and stay focused on the task at hand!

  • Time loops No time loops. Don't be ridiculous. Time is a strictly linear concept and it certainly doesn't "loop," whatever that's supposed to mean.

  • A branching narrative where what you say and what you believe determines both your build and how the story unfolds.

  • A new roleplaying experience from the creators of Scarlet Hollow.

  • Fully voice-acted by the impeccable Jonathan Sims and Nichole Goodnight.

Tiring trial and error

This game has a great concept and I look forward to what comes next from the developers. However, to experience the most this game has to offer, you only have two options. One is picking an option that you don't know will go in a certain direction and just rolling with it (the first several times). The other is knowing your options will go a certain direction and trying different options afterward. Then you repeat the latter option again and again in order to get the most out of the game. If you're at all critical of an overabundance of dialogue options, like in Disco Elysium, then this will quickly grow tiresome. You'll see the same options repeatedly until you choose the right ones to move the game forward. Are some of the dialogue options really good? Yes! But you're required to choose them repeatedly to experience the other outcomes the game has to offer. I can see why some adore this game and have written glowing reviews. But for the price, I'd say only go all in if you're willing to accept the above realities of the game. If you want to try with the opportunity to refund, understand that to experience all the game's options requires a particulary intense session where you perform as many options as you can, repeatedly, to get as many story outcomes as you can before your refund window is up. If you're critical of this kind of mechanic, I simply can't recommend it.

Dont play visual novels, but loved this

The only other visual novel I've "played" was some anime thing with like 3 dialogue choices in the whole game. I though all visual novels were like that for years, and were all trash. This game is incredibly well written. I was happy to go through again and again, seeing all the options and branches I could figure out. Some branches had further branches, and options had further options - I loved being surprised even on the second or third time a seemingly-familiar scenario began to unfold. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

Slay the Princess

I just finished my first playthrough of Slay the Princess last night, an horror-themed visual novel by Black Tabby Games — https://www.blacktabbygames.com/ I don’t like horror games. I don’t like visual novels at all. Yet, for some strange reason, I loved my experience with this one. I am already planning to do a couple other playthroughs to see more branches and endings (but not right now, other games are already waiting). By the way, don’t buy it on Steam. A DRM-free build is available from gog.com, despite not being advertised on the developers website. And you can try a free demo from itch.io.

Worth the wait

Been looking forward to this since I played the demo during an itch.io games binge last year. Bought this the first day it was available. Excellent, excellent work. Beautiful presentation, very complex branching paths, and all fully voiced by an actress you won't mind listening to for hours. I thought it was going to be sort of Stanley Parable: The Horror Game but the end went in a very different direction than I was expecting.

A VN worth my time (Review from Steam)

It's honestly amazing. I never played a visual novel game but just a few scenes from this game convinced me to just buy it. Pros: -The voice acting is really great, having just two ppl voicing so many different "version of a character and being so good at it is really something to be praised. The writing is just perfect. It can be so engaging, funny, sad and interesting at the same time. While the art can be very simple and rough at times (especially when it comes to the characters, I think it still adds alot to the game and clearly show that the artist is very much capable of creating fine art. -Im gonna be honest, you really have to beat the game once to appreciate the music fully, which was kinda a shahme but it still stuck with me. - I think Im not alone when Im saying that the biggest selling point is our best girl "The Thorn". If this moment doesn't convinces you that the bought was worth it, then is this game not for you (The Adversary is also good, bc Tomboy) -To get back to voice acting for a moment. Having different "Aspects" in your head that talk to you and argue among each other remind me of Disco Elysium which I love - After just one run I had the this feeling that you have like when you finished a book. This emptiness you have for like 1-2 days you know? Its sound bad but that just shows how invested I was in the game. I actually had a bunch of cons in my Steam Review aswell but Im running out of words that I can use. Soooo....yea......Im just gonna say. Buy it. Do it for "her" Your money will be well spend on a game that doesn't relay on "sister loving" to even get ppl attention.
