You're on a path in the woods, and at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess.
You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world.
She will do everything in her power to stop you. She'll charm, and she'll lie, and she'll promise you the world, and if you let her, she'll kill you a dozen times over. You can't let that happen. Don't forget, the fate of the world rests on your shoulders.
You're not going to listen to him, are you? We're supposed to save princesses, not slay them...
Features
A princess. She's very bad and you have to get rid of her for all our sakes.
No, the Princess isn't a cosmic horror. She's just an ordinary human Princess, and you can definitely slay her as long as you put your mind to it.
Don't even think about trying to romance her. It won't end well for you.
Hopefully you won't die. But if you do, you'll die a lot. Be careful and stay focused on the task at hand!
Time loops No time loops. Don't be ridiculous. Time is a strictly linear concept and it certainly doesn't "loop," whatever that's supposed to mean.
A branching narrative where what you say and what you believe determines both your build and how the story unfolds.
A new roleplaying experience from the creators of Scarlet Hollow.
Fully voice-acted by the impeccable Jonathan Sims and Nichole Goodnight.

An excellent little dialogue-based game! The artwork is great, the story is great, the voice acting is great! Really like it! Do note though that while you can play this game many times and still discover branches you hadn't tried before, you can complete a single campaign run in a single evening. Not a bad thing though if you ask me, 'cause if it were longer it would probably feel drawn out. I'm afraid I can't say anything else about the plot. May have already said too much...
P.S.: The Linux port worked extremely well! Thank you, Black Tabby Games, for keeping the penguin bros in mind!
I appreciate what the developers were going for, but it just didn't work for me. A lot of what was meant to sound deep or mind blowing was shallow and meaningless, much like my experience with the game. The humour didn't land, and the characters were uninteresting as a consequence. For a game that has so many options for what to say, much of it was not in line with what I would have chosen, making the experience oddly alienating for a choose-your-own adventure story. It became less and less interesting as the story went on, with the peak of interest being the first cycle. I was more or less just clicking through the excruciating banter to get to the point of the story which, again, is not particiularly deep or meaningful when concluded. When I first heard about the game, it peaked my interest which is why I decided to get it and is almost certainly why I'm disappointed enough to write a review. So make of that what you will.
I'm sure I'm in the minority here. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and I'm not about to dismiss the hard work that went into it or the crowd that likes the game. I just didn't like it and felt it might be useful to have the counter perspective out there in the ether. 2/5
A beautiful and surreal trip filled with horror, humor, romance and mystery. It's also surprisingly large and repayable, with every different choice affecting the flow of the story in various ways. It will require several playthroughs if you really want to see everything the game has to offer.
Like it's fine. If you don't play a lot of games like this, def give it a try for a fun, shorter experience that'll feel unique and exciting for you. If that's you, give it a shot and enjoy.
But if you play a lot of choice-based games, including Black Tabby's other game, Scarlet Hollow, your mileage may vary. Very much sink or swim based on how much you are emotionally open to what's going on, and unfortunately I wasn't. It felt like all of the things the story was trying to say were self-evident and not particularly compelling, which ultimately made the whole game feel less like an amazing emotional adventure like so many people say, and more like a casual trip to the zoo.
Like I wasn't gripped by anything after the first little foray into the game, more just going through the motions to see what else there was because ultimately the structure of the game doesn't really have any true "build up" to anything unique to the player's own interaction with the game. Which is strange because the game makes a big deal about what YOU chose to do at the end. That felt entirely pointless to me because, just as an example, half of the things on the list of "things I did" at the end were things I only did because the game forced me to keep playing it long after I had seen the things I was personally interested in. The game branches plenty but because of that none of the branches really felt like they had the time to explore what was interesting about them before it was on to the next.
Very hard to describe the feeling without spoiling anything lol, but point is your choices do branch what you see plenty, but it feels like none of it really matters or reflects the intention behind why you might have made those choices. You're literally just checklisting. In a narrative RPG. Which is... kind of a feat, honestly.
I wish I liked it more than I do, but it really is just a hollow experience. Ironically, Scarlet Hollow doesn't have these problems, so I'll just play that. :)
