Description
You play Sanjuro Makabe, a Mobile Combat Armor (MCA) pilot and Commander in the UCA Security Force. The UCA was originally formed by three dominant megacorporations (Andra Biomechanics, Armacham Technology Corporation, and Shogo Industries). Originally intended as a joint venture that would ensure the continued profitability of the three organizations that founded it, the UCA is now independent, and the dominant military power in existence.

Your mission is to locate and assassinate a rebel leader known only as Gabriel. All of the action takes place either on the planet Cronus or on the spaceship Leviathan. The Leviathan is the flagship of the UCA and is commanded by Admiral Akkaraju. Cronus is the only known source of the biologically active material known as Kato, an incredibly powerful energy source essential to the process by which interstellar travel is possible.

Your deadly enemy is The Fallen, a fanatical terrorist group lead by the mysterious Gabriel, threatens the balance of power on Cronus, and ultimately, control of Kato. You will fight them on your feet or from within one of the different types of Mobile Combat Armor, a giant mech which can run, duck, strafe, swim or transform into an ultrafast hovertank.

You will know the true power of giant robots!
  • Anime-influenced graphics and gameplay design
  • Fight on foot or pilot a giant mech in both open and urban environments
  • An interesting storyline with two possible endings

Great concept and fun nostalgia trip

First of all, be aware that this is a game which may require some fiddling around with before it will run ok. I've brought it to a point where it is playable, but will still crash at times - usually soon after launching the game. Switching between piloting a massive mech and being on foot is a great gameplay mechanic. While in the mech the world looks miniature and the people are like ants, and on foot the game is just like a normal FPS. The weapons are different and the gameplay in general is different between the two modes. You almost get two games in one, and I still remember my mind being blown by this concept way back when the game was new. It's still a concept that works exttremely well, and a shame that it's rarely been seen since then. Dialogue and story is cheesy, and obviously the game mechanics are a little dated at this point, but it's fun and different and has old-school simplicity.

Really fun action packed game

It's so fun, with gore, japanese characters, mecchas, BIG GUNS, and awesome single player levels! In my opinion the Lithtech engine has done its time... There are several bugs very annoying on the newer PC like the foes with extreme low reaction time (more like wallhack, heh). This drawback is also to be mentioned on Shogo's brother, Blood 2, sadly. Few missions will stay in my mind, like fetching a cat to open some gates and solving little puzzles to break the gore (yes, the game is very gorish). So put apart the Lithtech engine, it's a very good game with a lot of action and very cool stuff (pictures, easter eggs...) Definitely worth it. Oh, did I mention it contained two different endings? Well in one you get a big BIG gun...

Multiplayer is a riot

Shogo is a fun single player game, but IMHO always shined in the Multiplayer area. I remember the great fun we had death matching with this game.

Shogo is fun.

To be fair: I haven't played this game in probably 5 years or more. When I purchased it, I found it for $20 at media play (in a dual-pack with Septerra Core), and, liking Monolith, I decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did. The game was fun to play all the way through, and the story was entertaining if, sadly, not that memorable. The graphics were pretty good for the time, and delightfully stylized to add a flavor of distictness, and the overall mood of the game was very light. It was fun to play simply to enjoy playing. My favorite moment, though, was when I *accidentally* discovered I could shoot good-guy NPCs in the mother-ship base area. The first time I did it, I panicked and reloaded. The second time, curious, I tried to see what could happen... ...In the game Driver, there's a minigame where the entire point is to live as long as you can while cop cars chase you down. You're outnumbered and out-classed and it's very fun. Effectively, when you kill a good-guy NPC in the non-combat area of Shogo, you trigger a scenario that's exactly like this. Shogo doesn't just stop you from doing something dumb. Instead it demonstrates why this is a bad idea by punishing you appropriately. I loved it. :D If my copy of the game wasn't sitting behind me in my CD wallet, ready to go, I'd buy this in a second. :D

What a surprising find

This was a game i used to play back when i was younger all the time. It was a pinnacle in gaming history for me, and im sure anyone else who picked it up wont be dissapointed either. Im not sure if its the amazing story, thrown in with the great gameplay or what. But this game surely wont let you down.
