Saints Row 2 brings true freedom to open-world gaming. Players can play as who they want, how they want, and with whomever they want in this sequel to the much acclaimed and tremendously successful Saints Row.
Set years after the original, the player finds himself in a Stilwater both familiar and strange and challenged with bringing the Saints back as the rightful kings of Stilwater and bringing vengeance to those who wronged him.
Limitless Customization - Play as fully customizable characters that are male, female or something in between. Vehicles can be visually customized as well as performance tuned. Cribs and even gangs all have an amazing degree of detailed customization options.
Multiplayer - Co-op full story campaign has seamless integration (for example one player drives while the other shoots). Competitive MP pushes the boundaries of immersion in a living Stillwater environment fully populated with police, innocent bystanders and rival gangs.
Killer Combat and Awesome Vehicles - Planes, helicopters, motorcycles, boats and cars can be piloted and used as weapons. On the ground new combat options include melee, fine aim, and human shield.
Freedom to Explore - More missions, activities, diversions, races, weapons, vehicles, cribs, city districts, and interiors than ever before. Over 40 story missions with additional bonus missions take place in a transformed Stilwater that is over 50% larger than before.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Mouse axis just sits and spins. Literally. Glad I was looking at the free release. I'd have been pretty peeved if I'd put any money in. Install lasted ten minutes, then off the drive. Doesn't deserve the one star.
Saints Row 2, the sequel that was perfect in every way, expanding on the world of Saints Row 1, with new gangs, new vehicles, new weapons, more customisation options, a bigger city, an amazingly satisfying story and best of all, the addition of 2 player CO OP!
SR2 is probably one of the best examples of a cooperative sandbox game there is! In a game where players get to complete missions any way they see fit, 2 player only adds to the game! Why not run a muck in the city together? Sample hitting each other with every item you can get your hands on in the game! Race each other to destinations, fly under bridges with helicopter support standing by to revive you after trying something stupid! It's all there! It's all brilliant!
Not to mention the story line in SR2 offers some of the most satisfying moments in video game history! (Try and tell me you didn't enjoy every second of the Ronin story!) With Johnny Gat back and as funny as ever!
This game has aged surprisingly well given how old it is, the only place it feels a little dated is in the length of the levels...they just kind of cut off right when you think there should be a massive gun fight or something. But that's OK! It's a sandbox! Have the gun fight once you're done!
The PC port of this game is terrible, even with the fan mods it runs poorly. On the other hand, the game offers you lot of freedom and lot of customization, starting with creating your avatar (you can make a true abomination), to customizing your cars, cribs and so on. That is the main appeal of the game. Just go out there and do crazy stuff, spray buildings with septic tanks, cause mayhem, have fun. Do not expect anything serious.

What more could you want from a game? This is basically GTA with copious amounts of over-the-top action, weapons, and dialogue, gratuitously sexy scenarios, and generally unrestricted gameplay. You can build a criminal empire while beating people with hilariously random objects, participate in mini games, and get your hands dirty with various sundry criminal activities. Though this is a notoriously bad PC port, I can honestly say that the GOG version is the best PC version available. The framerate is locked at 42 fps, and that's just fine for a classic console game such as this. As an essential improvement, it is recommended to install the Gentlemen of the Row mod by IdolNinja (RIP), the radio fix, and the resolution picker as resolutions such as 1440p are not selectable without it. All info can be found at pcgamingwiki Be warned however that your mileage may vary. The game, even with the mod by IdolNinja, can still randomly crash. Save often, and have a blast! The only crashes I encountered on my rig were caused by unlocking the framerate, and by having the browser running in the background. You may also want to play in compatibility mode. You can't go wrong by picking this up on sale.
Preface: I played this with the FPS unlock mod, then used RivaTuner to lock it to 60 FPS, and installed the Gentlemen of the Row modpack and only selected the fixes.
So after a few years of waiting for the official PC patch I finally caved and decided to play Saints Row 2 on PC after I played through the first Saints Row game on my Xbox Series X earlier this year. With the aforementioned mods & fan patches I will say this game is playable. The framerate is very inconsistent, but for whatever reason when you lock it to 60 FPS (I did so using RivaTuner but there are other ways to do so) it's moderately more consistent, although it is nowhere close to a constant 60 FPS. It actually reminds me of when I played GTA 4 on PC a few years ago, which is another woefully unoptimized PC port, where the FPS varies wildly while driving, when indoors, and during in-engine cutscenes.
While less than ideal, I could tolerate the wildly inconsistent framerate. There is a major stability issue with this port, though, where the game will seemingly at random crash when you enter vehicles. It also randomly crashes when explosions go off. It's almost maddening, however the game does have a decent autosave feature; I constantly saved manually as well, just in case the autosave put me into a broken state (which thankfully never occurred during my playthrough). It is definitely frustrating when it happens in the middle of a mission or activity, though, because while the game autosaves following mission and activity completions, it doesn't let you load a save back into mid-mission, so be forewarned you will lose small amounts of progress when the game crashes.
Overall it's an enjoyable game, but the technical issues create many hurdles that you'll need patience to get through. There's a lot of variety with the activities, so there's plenty to do in this game, although nothing is really groundbreaking in design or fun factor. I would recommend this for friends, but you'll need patience.
