Saints Row 2 brings true freedom to open-world gaming. Players can play as who they want, how they want, and with whomever they want in this sequel to the much acclaimed and tremendously successful Saints Row.
Set years after the original, the player finds himself in a Stilwater both familiar and strange and challenged with bringing the Saints back as the rightful kings of Stilwater and bringing vengeance to those who wronged him.
Limitless Customization - Play as fully customizable characters that are male, female or something in between. Vehicles can be visually customized as well as performance tuned. Cribs and even gangs all have an amazing degree of detailed customization options.
Multiplayer - Co-op full story campaign has seamless integration (for example one player drives while the other shoots). Competitive MP pushes the boundaries of immersion in a living Stillwater environment fully populated with police, innocent bystanders and rival gangs.
Killer Combat and Awesome Vehicles - Planes, helicopters, motorcycles, boats and cars can be piloted and used as weapons. On the ground new combat options include melee, fine aim, and human shield.
Freedom to Explore - More missions, activities, diversions, races, weapons, vehicles, cribs, city districts, and interiors than ever before. Over 40 story missions with additional bonus missions take place in a transformed Stilwater that is over 50% larger than before.

Lots of story content, and the respect mechanic is an interesting way to encourage exploration of the world.
Unfortunately, the game is crahs-prone. After losing my progress three times, I have given up on playing this game
BASED ON STEAM VERSION because that's the version I played first
...It's not well optimized and Gentlemen of the Row community patch adds more problems than it fixes. I get that people praise it because it fixes a lot of issues but it doesn't *really* make the game more stable and easier to play. It just makes the game more inconsistent on when it does decide to crash or not work. The base game aside from that is really unstable, especially for later systems(I think I first tried it on Vista?). It really doesn't run all that well.
I'll comment on where I place this in the Saints Row Series. From best to worst : Saints Row 3, Saints Row 2, Saints Row 4, haven't played Saints Row 1. This game, to put it simply, is one of the best and most fun games I have ever played. It's, what, San Andreas but a different take on the open world gangster shtick? This game is to GTA what Postal is to... FPS games, I guess. I remember first loading this game up(which wasn't even in the last decade, believe it or not) and I was amazed at how fun it was, with all of the minigames, collectibles, and side stuff to do. The missions are all just really fun and hilarious, and the character in unforgettable, especially Shandi. The gameplay has always been really good in the Saints Row too, so I only have high praises for how fun the game is to play.
Now, as I was checking my Steam purchase date of this game, I noticed a news stub that said Volition found "long-lost Saint Row 2 source code, pledges to fix notoriously wonky PC port", so... There's some luck there. Volition detoured away from this game's roots with Saints Row 3 and 4, but maybe this potential fix of Saints Row 2 will reignite their love for parodying GTA/gangster games. We need more of Volition's magic touch. For the time being, however, I can't genuinely recommend this version. Go out and buy a used PS2, and then buy this game for PS2. More worth it than buying this version.
It is an excellent gta-style game. You can customize your character, clothes, tattoos, even your house. You have lots of weapons at your disposal, the story is decent, the "submissions" are entertaining ... as long as you just walk. Every time you put your butt in a vehicle, it makes you want to cut your veins. The driving system is uncontrollable, there is no way to end up stamping you against a wall, in the hollow of some stairs or trapped between two trees at the moment in which you try to turn. Forget the "gentlemen" patch, nothing can fix that mess.
======================
Amazing game and worth buying! In my opinion its the strongest game of the series. With some of the best social satire I've ever seen in a game.
Great character customization and the freedom to do anything you want, how you want, and when you want. Can't ask more from an open world /sandbox / RPG. Its a shame that Volition went under and that Deep Silver will more than likely not be adding to this great series again any time soon, if at all...

Peak of the series
This is one of the best open world games ever. In the same league as San Andreas.
